I'm trying to exit X entirely and use the console to install my nVidia drivers, I have a .run file. I've tried all of the normal commands like init 3 and everything, killing the X process, Ctrl Alt F1, Ctrl Alt Backspace, but nothing wants to work. What do I need to do?

Setting up Ubuntu 10.04 as a server for Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) Time Machine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 25, 2011
I recently upgraded my Mac to OS 10.7, at which point my Time Machine backups stopped working because Apple made some changes to the AFP client in 10.7. I did some research and figured out how to make it work. The information out there is a patchwork, so I decided to put this all in one place. If there are any errors or omissions, please let me know and I'll try to fix it!
Quick instructions first, then some detailed notes below.
- You'll need a newer version of netatalk. To install version the latest (2.2beta4, as of this writing):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stefanor/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install netatalk
- Edit /etc/netatalk/afpd.conf to allow guest login. This configuration line is the same as the default, with only uams_guest.so added.
- -tcp -noddp -uamlist uams_guest.so,uams_dhx.so,uams_dhx2.so -nosavepassword
- Edit /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default so it contains the following lines. Change "/mnt/TimeMachine&q

Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Server Not Recognizing sshdconfig
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 22, 2012
I have two xenforo forums on shared hosting and want to switch one of them to VPS. I recently bought an unmanaged vps server from www.fanaticalvps.com and their default server was CentOS 5. They had several options to install a new server so I chose Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32-bit. Since I am a noob to this server stuff I've been google searching guides. This is what I've done so far.
I am unable to login using my old root password so after installing Ubuntu, I reset the password from their SolusVM Access Panel.
I open up putty and login as root using the new password.
I then enter these commands:
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
apt-get install nano
Then I go to visudo
myusername ALL=(ALL) ALL
at the bottom of the visudo file.
Another guide said to do this:
adduser myusername sshlogin
Now no changes in my /etc/ssh/sshd_config folder seem to work.
Did my problem begin because I reset the root password? What is
Ubuntu 10.04, KDE4 + Freenx server + NoMachine Windows client black screen
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 23, 2010
We have a PC running 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 and KDE 4.
After discovering that VNC does not work well with KDE 4, we installed the FreeNX server. This works with a NoMachine NX client running on Windows XP with no problems.
We needed another linux PC with the same configuration. To save time we cloned the linux hard disk and installed it in another PC with identical hardware. The IP address & hostname were changed because it had to connect to the same network.
This works fine from the console.
When I try to connect to the second machine using NX, it appears to authenticate and connect but I get a black window and cursor. After a few seconds, the NX client terminates and the window is closed. It suggests that the KDE window manager is not working properly. However KDE runs up correctly from the console or when using VNC.
I can connect over SSH from another linux machine.
I tried removing and re-installing the FreeNX server - same problem.
I even tried re-installing the windo
