Ubuntu 13.04 Grub Prevents BIOS setup and USB boot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 5, 2013
I have been recentlty adventuring myself with the installation of Ubuntu in an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14.
I had successfully installed Ubuntu 12.04 in it (creating a UEFI partition with 200MB in the start of the first non-ssd device, which seemed to be required).
After that, I had tried replacing Ubuntu 12.04 with 13.04, however I forgot to "re-create" (or configure) the UEFI partition, for that installation.
As a result, any time I boot the ultrabook I get a grub command-line, which prevents me from booting pendrive Ubuntu images in order to restore the UEFI partition.
The grub command-line also shows up as I try to get into the BIOS setup screen.
I read in some places that the UEFI partition replaces the BIOS firmware, and that grub is installed in there. Then this gives me these issues.
As I try to manually load a kernel image from the grub command-line (installed in the SSD device - from the previous installation or a USB device),
grub freezes and hangs

How to Dual boot Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit and Windows 7 on Win8 UEFI Computer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 20, 2013
I have spent days trying to get my Computer to Dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu with any inconviences along the way and I would love to tell the world in the hope that anyone with the same problem will be quickly helped.
I recently bought a new HP Pavilion g6-2244sa 15.6" Laptop (1TB HDD, 8GB RAM) with Windows 8 pre installed.
I did not like Windows 8 so wanted to downgrade to Windows 7 dual booting with Ubuntu 13.04 and this was made hard by the new UEFI system, along with the secure boot function which has to be present for a computer to be certified by Microsoft. I presume this is a new way for Microsoft to fight of Competition and to eliminate Linux users to switch between systems.
This setup should work for most HP Laptops or computers with similair spec which has Windows 8 as the default OS and has the new UEFI system.
1. Enabe Legacy boot and Disable Secure boot. To prepare your computer for this boot, you must enter BIOS Setup when you first turn on your compute
Ubuntu 13.04 Gnome: long wait period between Grub and boot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 21, 2013
Hi guys, I have Ubuntu 13.04 Gnome installed on my laptop (dual booting with Windows 7), and I've been having an issue that I've had with previous versions of Ubuntu. After I select Ubuntu from the Grub menu, I'm left at a blue screen (the background color for Grub) for a good 10 seconds or so until Ubuntu starts to boot. For me, it shows this blue screen, then finally shows some line of code on a black screen for a second, then is right at the login screen. This similar thing has happened for me with previous versions: I'd wait at a screen the same color as the Grub background, get the Ubuntu boot screen with the dots for a second, and then be right at the login screen. However, when I go to boot Windows, it goes straight from Grub to the Windows boot animation. What I'm wondering is why does booting into Ubuntu cause this delay between Grub and the start of the boot sequence? It doesn't seem like this screen is a part of the actual OS boot.
Grub Rescue error Ubuntu 13.04 Dual Boot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 9, 2013
i'm a newbie to Linux and had install Ubuntu 12.10 dual booted with Windows8. But the ubuntu several times showed some wierd kind of errors (which I've never heard of, like it got hanged and freezed). So I decided to upgrade to 13.04.
What I did: I wanted to increase the space allocated for the disk on which ubuntu was installed, so I shrinked one disk (using Windows Partion Manager) and deleted the one in which Ubuntu(12.10) was installed.
So when I restarted it, it showed "Grub rescue" kind of error. I tried to install ubuntu (by live cd), it does not show any partition. It shows the whole hard disk as a single partition.
Moreover, when I tried to mount any of the partition (of total of 5), it says something like "cannot mount, the file system is not in fine state ... shutdown windows and try again".
When I tried to boot windows Xp (the only cd I have atm), it stuck at "Examining disk at bus 0 ..." something.
I searched and have instal
