Installation of Ubuntu 14.04 fails
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 21, 2014
Hi all,
I have Dell Inspiron 1525 with Win XP SP3 and I am trying to have a dual boot OS with Win XP & Ubuntu Linux 14.04. I am a newbie with Linux and need help with UL14.04 installation.
I have downloaded ubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso from http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/ and burnt onto a DVD. I inserted this DVD in my CD/DVD drive, change the boot sequence priority to CD/DVD drive (instead of internal HDD), save my settings, exit setup, the machine tries to access the CD/DVD drive and then Win XP starts up. Any idea why Ubuntu doesn't begin installation? What am I missing? Do I need to open the ISO file using 7Zip appln & burn the contents on to a DVD and then use this new DVD to boot up my laptop for Ubuntu installation?
Since my laptop doesn't begin installation, I let it boot into Win XP, used 7Zip appln to browse the contents of ubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso file. I see that this has wubi.exe (Windows based Ubuntu installer). I copy the ISO file from the DVD to my HDD
Ubuntu Server 14.04 installation hangs after 'Scanning CDROM' dialog
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 24, 2014
Hi everyone,
First time caller, long time listener. I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server 14.04 on to a new computer build, and am running in to problems early on in the installation.
I've burned the installation ISO image on to a DVD, and am able to boot from it on the PC I want to install it to. I go through the first few questions regarding keyboard layout, then the dialog box saying 'Scanning CD-ROM' comes up briefly before reaching 100% and disappearing. Then I'm just left with the blank purple screen, with no action on the HDD or DVD.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to begin troubleshooting. I'm using the on board graphics card and have it connected with HDMI.
I don't think there's anything strange hardware wise:
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev 5.0)
AMD FX-6350 CPU
2 x 4GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1333MHz DDR3
Seagate ST1000DM003
LG GGC-H20L Bluray / HDDVD/ DVD drive
Does anyone have any thoughts?
