Ubuntu VS Ubuntu Server VS Fedora VS Suse
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 2, 2009
Hello every one
I am setting up a webserver, I am paying a lot of money to host my website, it is only a personal website with some videos. I did some research but realized how sophisticated and hard setting up a server could be.
I am torn between Ubuntu, Suse and Fedora. I heard many good things about Ubuntu but not sure what is the difference between Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server.
I read online that Suse is not the best OS for running a server, and I am not familiar with Fedora.
For some reason I am with Ubuntu, but it is just my guts so I need a more accurate answer.
I am a bit confused, I really want to learn one of these OS but not sure were to start and not sure which one is better for my web server.
I appreciate any help
Thank in advance
Ubuntu package vs. debian package
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 28, 2005
A package I'm compiling has dependencies on glib-2.0.
The runtime version comes with the breezy distro, but not the dev-lib. And I can't find the dev-lib anywhere. So I figured, fine, get the source and make it. Spent many hours getting to understand dpkg* tools.
Then I found that there is a full distribution of the packages I'm looking for (runtime + dev lib) on the debian depot (http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages).
The problem though is that the debian packages use a slightly different version number schema. And so I can't match the dev lib from the debian depot with the already installed run-time lib (I get the dependency error - dependency not met because the breeze runtime is called 2.8.0-0ubuntu1 vs. the debian runtime is called 2.8.0-1). I tried re-loading the already installed run-time forcing the version to the debian package, but that looks like it would uninstall all kinds of stuff that depends on it.
So now I downloaded the source of the debian package to se
ubuntu studio vs kubuntu

Hello! What to install?
I like how kubuntu look and feel, but i keep in mind that the Kde is a little bit resource hungry.
On the other way, I was reading that ubuntu studio has some ''real time kernel'' or real time kernel patch -what is that? will make the operating system to process faster video and music editing or photo's as well?
Dose real time kernel from ubuntu studio make kde to move slighty faster?
I would like to use my laptop for everyday task's and Photo Editing (Photoshop emulated) that would be the primary used task, and second is to have a wordpress installed (mysql, php, apache) to work at my personal website locally and then uploda it to host's severs.
please wait...
