Ubuntu ACPI error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 16, 2007
This may be ran over a lot of times on this forum, but even though I read some of the answers I could find, I am still puzzled. I am a total noob at Linux stuff.
I have a really old IBM Thinkpad 765D with 3gb hd, 133Mhz processor, 64MB RAM and I'm trying to install Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) on it. The problem I have is that every time I select to install it in the menu, a few seconds later I get an error
"[ 000000000]ACPI: Unable to locate RSDP"
then it locks up and runs my floppy for some reason. I'm not sure about the first part, but there are only 0's and a big space before them, if that matters. I even tried to turn off acpi in the boot string, but it skips the error and locks up. It's a live desktop CD. What can I do to fix this?
Ubuntu boot error, no video signal after grub
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 14, 2012
Hi guys, I'm very new at this so bare with me...
So I'm using ubuntu 12.04 installed on a 1TB external hdd.
After logging into ubuntu, I updated the video drivers (using home desktop with ATI, at work its nVidia) and after the reboot, i can no longer boot? (not sure if this is right description)
So I get to grub (is that like the boot menu?) and then I try the first option which is normal boot (as opposed to recovery). Then I get the purple ubuntu screen, a screen of text and before I can read it, the monitor loses video signal.
I'm not sure what I can do at this point, I really need to get back on to work
Any help is appreciated! thanks!

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 13, 2013
Hi ( Im new )
I kinda fixed up an old Laptop ( Toshiba Satellite L300 23K ), and desided to install Ubuntu on it for a change ( no previous experience with Linux whatsoever )
Im having troubble with the installation process
Note that the Laptop's OS ( Windows ) is damaged, and can not start
I downloaded Ubuntu ( version 12 sumthin', 64bit )
I burnt the iOS file to a CD-R ( using windows 7 )
I inserted the CD into the Laptop, and booted from CD-drive
Here is where the problem comes...
Im presented with a Terminal/ DOS screen which eventually displays some text/ error message
Pressing any keyboard button writes a bunch of text and end us at this error:
This is the 3rd time i tried the CD boot.
The very first time i got an I/O error instead of the above
( The ubuntu screen "UBUNTO + ....." evry other time i hit the keyboard )
What am i doing wrong?
How can i install Ubuntu?
Ubuntu update error message
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 3, 2012
I tried updating to the latest version of Ubuntu. Did my software update, then upgrade to latest version. While it was installing, I keep getting the following error message: "Backup location is too small. Try using one with more space." Does this mean my computer is too old and not enough space to upgrade or can this be fixed?

Ubuntu Grub error 22
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 4, 2010
I had Ubuntu and Windows running on my computer. Ubuntu had an error such that I could not load it, so I wanted to delete Ubuntu via Windows. I followed the directions found here: http://bobmorris.wordpress.com/2008/...-windows-only/
1) In Windows, launch Disk manager and remove every partition used by Ubuntu (root partition, swap, …)
2) Reboot with your Windows CD. When asked, choose “repair” and launch fixmbr. This command replaces GRUB with Windows bootloader.
3) Reboot again and you have done.
Once you are done, it you want to recover the space for Windows that was once used by Ubuntu. You can use the steps outlined above (going the the Disk Manager, etc). To create a new NTFS partition and assign it as something like the D: drive (or some other letter) to be used for data and so forth.
However, I think I neglected to delete one of the 3 Ubuntu drives, which MAY have caused the following problem:
When I try to run the repair function on the
