Fun Thought: Will Ubuntu Touch devices support installing of other DEs?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 12, 2013
Lately I've found myself growing increasingly bored of the mobile space. This is largely due to the fact that you don't really have any degree of flexibility with crossing other operating systems or environments with existing hardware. Sure, you can flash and install Cyanogenmod on your Android, but Cyanogenmod is still Android, so you're just getting a different Android. You're still largely stuck with Android-related OS's on Android devices, Windows on Windows devices, etc.
I'm a huge fan of many desktop environments. I love what's happening these days. While I'm not a KDE fan, Plasma Active is an interesting concept. Gnome Shell is downright gorgeous and Unity is something we're all aware of in regard to Ubuntu Touch. As a result, this got me wondering. I can easily install KDE on Ubuntu, Gnome Shell on Ubuntu, etc etc etc as it stands now. Of course, I can also install the DE-specific spins (Kubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME), but that's something we'll ignore for right now. What I think wo
Does Ubuntu 12.04 support USB 3.0 speeds?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 7, 2012
Hello all. I have a slightly older PC that I would like to add a USB 3.0 card to.
If indeed Ubuntu 12.04 supports USB 3.0 speeds, can the forum recommend a card (either PCI or PCI-e) that is OOB compatible with Ubuntu 12.04.
Why can Ubuntu 12.10 support 3 monitors when Windows 7 cannot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 13, 2013
I am a little confused. I have 3 monitors hooked up with my Ubuntu 12.10. It works great. I have a dualboot system with Windows 7.
Windows will only recognize 2 monitors. Someone suggested that I need an active Displayport connection. Which doesn't make sense to me
because Ubuntu can handle it just fine. Can anyone tell me why Ubuntu handles this setup with no issue at all and windows 7 cannot
Does Ubuntu 12.10 support RAID
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 4, 2012
A newbie question, so please bear with me.
I tried to install Ubuntu 12.10 on my PC with RAID, the installation worked fine, but the PC didn't reboot afterwards. I had to reinstall it with RAID disabled, now it is working. Can Ubuntu be installed with RAID enabled? Or am I missing something?

Ubuntu Oneiric Multiarch support for ARM on x8664?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 24, 2011
i386 support seems to work OK. aptitude hasn't been fixed to work correctly yet or something -- always has curious issues with the :i386, but apt-get seems to do it's job okay.
Today, as an experiment, I tried adding the armel architecture lines to /etc/apt/sources.list, for ports.ubuntu.com. clean, update, upgrade. Package manager in good state.
Now, when I try to install packages for :armel with apt-get, it's "not working." It's dependency hell.
Has anyone tried this for armel, armhf, etc.? Is it supposed to work at this point? Or are we waiting for armel to get merged to the main repos, say maybe with 12.04?

I have a Logitech USB Headset & Mic on a Sony VAIO VGN-FE780G using Ubuntu 7.10. I'm having a broblem using the set with Skype. I am able to hear music thru the headphones, but no sound with Skype. I have read threads about this problem others are having with USB headset w/Mic. Does anyone know if ver. 8.04 will correct this problem? Thanks, Cal

getdeb.net announces Ubuntu 8.04 support
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 28, 2008
Via the blog entry (click) getdeb.net is now making Hardy packages too! Just make sure it says "You are browsing software for Ubuntu Hardy" on top of the page, if you're on 8.04 now. If it doesn't say that, then click "select other version" and pick the appropriate one.
If you'd like to help in making packages, they've got a guide up here (click).
This is just the time to thank them if you've ever gotten a .deb off getdeb.net too I suppose
