location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 3, 2011
I think many are having this problem...9.10 works on the PC , but NOT 10.4 LTS or 10.10 ...all I get a black screen on boot up, although it "sounds" like its working in the tower..,,, QUESTION!!...is there a simple download ANYWHERE that will fix this as I am only a newbie Linux end user with average PC skills.....also ...Will there continue to be security updates for (9.10) after this April 2011, or must I find a way to upgrade in order to have a secure Distribution ..I have a Compaq Presario SR1901WM with HDA Nvivia..The PC is about 5 yrs old,,thank You..Rick..

Ubuntu 6.10 Upgrade?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 19, 2008
My new dual core computer blew the processor and I installed 8.04 with no hitch but windows 2k is useless from there to me for graphics work. I cleaned the disk and installed Win2k but the process for installing 8.04 was far beyond my ability so I dropped back to 6.10. My problem is that I have 7.10 and 8.04 disks but I can't find a way to begin to upgrade and get to the 8.04 that i'm seeking to run. Is it possible? Every time I tried to install 8.04 on the 70gig unpartitioned space on my 80gig hard drive it wanted to install without a swap partition and I did not need that headache because I work with graphics in Ubuntu also.

Ubuntu 12.10 Upgrade
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 18, 2012
Alright! The new version of Ubuntu was just released this morning, and everything is looking good. System76 users are clear to upgrade immediately!
Just a couple of notes, as always:
As usual, we recommend waiting a week or two after the release before attempting a direct upgrade to give time for the servers to cool down.Fresh installs are good to go immediately.Don't forget to install the System76 Driver after installation! Just go to http://planet76.com and click the download link to automatically grab the latest version! As a note for users with dedicated graphics cards, the proprietary driver installation is now completed through the Software Sources item in System Settings. The Additional Drivers Utility has been removed.
That should be everything. The direct upgrade instructions are located at: Knowledge76 - Quantal Upgrade.

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 19, 2010
My name is Marshall Haire. I have recently upgraded my Ubuntu from version 9.10 to 10.04. When I select the normal boot, it loads up to the login in screen and then I log in, but after a minute once I'm logged in my computer just shuts down. I had never had an issue like this before with version 9.10. I even have tried adding noapic and apci=off. I am confused on where to troubleshoot this issue next. Below is my configuration for my system. Also, I am typing this on the forum in failsafeX.

Hello to the good people of Ubuntu Forums!
My name is Tamrat and I am from Ethiopia. I am totaly new to linux on a personal computer.
I was cleaning my room when I found a Ubuntu CD my friend gave me about a year ago under my bed. I really wanted to try it out and I installed it on my PC. I choose 'Install in Windows' and I gave it a reasonanble 10GB space. After the install completed, I really started to enjoy Ubuntu. It was version 9.10 (Karmic Koala).
I was having fun. Then I went to System > Adminstration > Update Manager and an error poped up saying "Your Ubuntu version is not supported anymore". I thought this was because KK was a bit old. Then at the top of the window I read "New Ubuntu release '10.04.3 LTS' is avialable". I clicked 'Upgrade' and infos poped up telling me what its gonna do, what is gonna be downloaded, how much time it would take and stuff.
After that a window appeared ('Distribution Upgrade') and it started performing a series of
