[SOLVED] Bluetooth not working on Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS on VMware
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 18, 2013
Hi guys, I have installed Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS on VMware and I think there is a problem with my bluetooth. My computer is a macbook pro retina and I run VMware with my ubuntu distribution on that. On virtual machine > settings >USB and bluetooth I have enabled the 'share Bluetooth devices with Linux' however when I go to the bluetooth symbol and go on 'bluetooth Settings', I have a toggle button that is always off and below it says 'Bluetooth is disabled'. When I toggle the button, the bluetooth symbol in the top right does change from grey to white however it seams unusable.
I am unable to add any bluetooth devices which is an indication that my bluetooth is not working. Anyone know what I should do to fix this? Thank you!

i just installed ubuntu 12.04 and had a few issues, im working through them one by one!
Im trying to connect my bluetooth keyboard, not been a problem on windows, apple phone and android phone but i have no success with linux.
it is as if there is no bluetooth on the laptop, i think it may be to do with there being a physical bluetooth button on my acer aspire 5520 that does not light up when i press it.
let me know what info you need to know.

HP Envy m6 bluetooth not working Ubuntu 13.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 26, 2014
I have a HP ENVY m6 laptop, which came pre-installed with Windows 8. I did a clean install of Ubuntu 13.10 today in an attempt to use a software to emulate the PS3 controller (In order to play with mouse and KB on the PS3 of course ) since I was kinda tired of Windows 8.1 anyways...
But that software (GIMX) uses bluetooth, which my laptop has built-in.
Ubuntu is starting up with the flight mode (disconnecting wireless activity, like Wifi and bluetooth), except the wifi is working, even though the button is lit red (off).
It is one of those rigs that you have to press FN+F12 to toggle the flight mode, but for some reason it doesn't work...
I've searched for hours on the ubuntu forums after a solution to no avail... So here I am.
The bluetooth is a Railink RT3290.
I've tried the stuff that was recommended, from
sudo unblock all
to writing a bunch of code..
Sorry, but I am a Linux noob after years of not using it properly
I'd love to get the bluetooth working! I can only
Ubuntu 10.04: Bluetooth not working properly with my phone?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 2, 2012
I'm trying to connect my phone (HTC Evo 4g, Android 2.3.3) to my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad) via Bluetooth and while the phone and laptop are seen as "paired" on the respective devices, it will not connect. Rather, it will connect for about a millisecond before it disconnects.
I have a feeling it is lack of drivers on Ubuntu, but I have no idea where to look to find the right ones (my Google-Fu is useless it seems).
There is the built-in Bluetooth adapter in my laptop, and I have been able to connect via Bluetooth on the Win7 side just fine.
What am I missing, has anyone else had this problem, and what can I do to fix this?

The Bluetooth device is not working. It worked however in Windows 7 Professional version 64 bit.
The error message is "No Adapters found for Bluetooth".
Can anyone help on this.
WiFi and Bluetooth not working in Ubuntu 14.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 5, 2014
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. Neither WiFi nor Bluetooth works. A wired LAN connection works, though.
I tried testing wireless connectivity using a hotspot on my phone, but my laptop cannot detect any wireless networks.
But the 'create WiFi connection' option is there, if it is of any use.
How do I fix this problem? I am fairly new to Ubuntu so please let me know if I have to provide more information.
Here is the output of wireless-info.txt:

Bluetooth not working with BCM41432 with Ubuntu 14.10 on Dell Vostro 3560
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 29, 2014
I have an issue on a Dell Vostro 3560 with a BCM43142 where the Bluetooth doesn't work even with the proprietary drivers installed. The WiFi works just fine. I'm running a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.10. The only time it worked was when I had Dell preinstalled Ubuntu 12.04.
dmesg | grep Bluetooth gives [ 4967.683179] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: patch brcm/BCM43142A0-0a5c-21d7.hcd not found
I don't have a Windows installation I can get files from
From lsusb Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0a5c:21d7 Broadcom Corp. BCM43142 Bluetooth 4.0
apt-get shows bcmwl-kernel-source is already the newest version.
This should have fixed my problem but it did not
Lenovo G580 Ubuntu 14.04 Wifi/Bluetooth not working.
- date: June 14, 2014
I just made a dualboot of Ubuntu 14.04 with windows 7, coming straight to the topic.
The wifi & Bluetooth are not working
After a fresh installation the wifi just didn't worked, i can see my SSID & can connect to it but unable to access the internet
as for a workaround i removed the driver by the following command
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
Now the wifi is connected & working but in proprietory drivers its says "This device in not working" obvious as i removed the drivers
i can use the Broadcom STA drivers but it again comes to same "Connected but no internet access"
Please give some solution on how to use the proper driver
I don't know anything about it as it just says "No bluetooth Device found" in system settings
