Installing a Linux ISO without a bootable CD Rom,USB or Nic
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 21, 2009
I have an old computer, it's a celeron. It was used as a point of sale pc. It has Networks cards, however no CD Rom and the Bios is old so I cannot boot to USB, I don't think i can boot to the Nic card either.
it currently has windows xp on it. I can get on the internet and download a linux ISO. I was wondering how I could possibly download the ISO somehow extract it then boot to the install for the distro??
For the record I don't want a virtual machine, I want to totally install over the windows OS.

The problem is when i installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit It did not see the My Dvd CD Rom drive at all where its suppose to be located and then mount it. How can I install this Drive and then mount so i can use it. If can least use some of the drive, but right now there is nothing which it not reorganizing the drive.

[SOLVED] How to find, identify, write to or load a driver from CD ROM to LINUX UBUNTU 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 14, 2011
Installed LINUX UBUNTU 11.04 completely replacing Windows 7.
Bought Sabrent Wireless-G 802.11G PCI Adapter card with LINUX driver on a mini CD. No documentation accompanied the PCI card, it is probably on the CD.
I do not have a clue on how to proceed.
I think there is a mount command but some knowledge is required on how to issue a mount.
How do I identify the CD ROM?
How can I get to Read, write and Load a driver
Where do I put the driver software
How to "load" and "unload"/remove a CD or DVD
What commands do I issue
fromthebronx (now in Texas)
My objective is to get internet connectivity wirelessly via the card and also to learn to use the CDROM

[SOLVED] How to find, identify, write to or load a driver from CD ROM to LINUX UBUNTU 11.04 Page 2

.ini files are for Windows.
As with (most) other questions about device drivers under Linux, you probably don't need to install the correct driver as it's likely to be on the system already. Just going by the filenames you listed, it seems like the device has a Ralink RT61 chipset, for which the driver is part of the kernel these days. Can you run the following commands (in a terminal) and post the output here, please?
Tell us about the hardware, only posting the section that's relevant to your device. You may need to put "sudo" first, if you're running Ubuntu:
Check whether the module is loaded:
lsmod | grep rt61
Check what the module is saying (e.g., if it's complaining about firmware):
dmesg | grep rt61
Edit: also, the distribution in your profile is "Ubuntu", not "UMBUTU".
How do I create a Bootable CD in Ubuntu?

I came across this tutorial. It is for Windows however. What program would be the equivalent to ImgBurn?
CD Rom closing under Wine, Ubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 28, 2012
I've been running pretty much the same software in V10.04. After upgrading to 12.04, a program I was using in wine (DVDfab8QT) won't open the CD rom drive after it's done.
Additionally, when I manually open the door (with the regular button on the drive) it closes again randomly between 30 seconds and so soon that the door hasn't fully opened yet.
Does not appear to be a physical issue, are there any pointers? Most things are stock, except I've been running
sudo noflushd -n 8 /dev/md127p1
on my RAID, which isn't supposed to work but seems to work fine.
Ubuntu Stops after CD ROM Boot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 2, 2014
I bought a new laptop about two weeks ago. Its an HP15 Notebook that came with Win8.1. I want to get rid of win8.1 but when I boot off of the Ubuntu CD my machine stops running after the install. The display light goes off and the CD drive shuts down. The only thing that stays on are the keyboard lights. I am not tech savvy enough to figure this out, any suggestions as to what to do. I have SecureBoot Disabled and I have the BIOS set to boot from CD Drive. I have Legacy set to enabled.
Also, when the Ubuntu purple screen disappears I get a very short message that says something to the effect that BlackBoot or BlackRoot cannot be loaded or read or something, the lines flash by too quickly for me to read them all. There is another line that appears under the BlackBoot line but I cannot get to it to read what it is saying becuae it flashes up then disappears. The same thing happens when a list of items scroll that says something to the effect of "Starting...." and &quo
