Ubuntu 12.10 Cinnamon vs Mint 14 Cinnamon
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 1, 2013
I'm switching from a Mac to Linux and am still in doubt as to which flavour I'm going to be using.
Ubuntu seemed like the obvious choice but after trying out several distros (many of which Ubuntu based) I decided that Mint Cinnamon was going to be it.
Until I found out you can install the Cinnamon desktop on ubuntu. Which I tried.
Hmm. It looks equally nice as it does on Mint but still, I've got the impression it runs just that tiny bit better on Mint (i.e. more fluid - and I tend to ditch something at the first sign of even the slightest hint of 'jerkyness').
Ubuntu would seem like the logical step when coming from a Mac : it's the most popular distro out there and the Unity interface in some ways is very similar to OS X. But, I have to say, I 'dislike' Unity with a passion (not going to use the word 'hate', seems a bit too strong - it was OK I guess in 12.04, terribly slow in 12.10). Mint Cinnamon touched me right away (although I'm currently trying out OpenSuse 12.3 KDE and I must

Does Ubuntu 13.04 + Cinnamon = Linux Mint?

I know Mint is built upon Ubuntu. So, if you take Ubuntu 13.04 and add Cinnamon, is that the same as Linux Mint or is there more to Mint then just Cinnamon?
Ubuntu LTS vs other distro & Unity vs Cinnamon
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 21, 2013
I have two issues I would like to address. So here goes.
One. LTS vs other. As a new user, which should I get .. LTS or a newer release?. I basically understand that LTS is "long term" and general is with a more stable distro. I did try Ubuntu 12.04 for a while but I didn't like the Unity desktop. And Gnome was ok for a while. I am wondering if I should go to the newest release of Ubuntu.
Two. Cinnamon. I see that, I guess, Cinnamon can be used in Ubuntu. Does Cinnamon replace the Unity desktop environment?
Sorry if my queries are a bit too general.
Thanks ahead of time.
Cinnamon Choice Ubuntu or Linux Mint?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 14, 2012
I have been playing with Cinnamon on Linux Mint 12 in parallel w/ my production 11.04. I have decided Cinnamon is pretty good for me. However should I install Ubuntu 12.04 and cinnamon via PPA or wait a bit and install the LinuxMint equivalent of 12.04 with Cinnamon. I am leaning towards Ubuntu 12.04 with the PPA. It seems like maintenance and documentation might be better and more timely. Any opinions?
[SOLVED] LibreOffice crashing in Ubuntu 12.04 (with Cinnamon)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 2, 2012
I am using Cinnamon in Ubuntu 12.04 and everything works absolutely perfectly apart from LibreOffice which keeps crashing.
I removed LO completely and then installed OpenOffice.
OO is installed but I cannot get it to run.
I then use: Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > System.
“Show the run command prompt” is disabled.
I try to enable it using Alt+F2 but I then get a message that the run command is not recognised. Very strange.
I have temporarily reinstalled LO. Whilst it does not crash quite so often, there is still a bug somewhere.
I do appreciate that LO and OO should not be run together.
How do I run OO with LO removed?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Ubuntu 12.10 and Cinnamon no desktop icons
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 26, 2012
I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 and added Cinnamon 1.6.4-0ubuntu1~quantal1 but I cannot add any Icons to the Desktop or have the Computer Icon present if selected in setup.
Is there anyone else with this issue, and does anyone know how to solve.
