Ubuntu Jaunty User with firefox 3.5.2: get old firefox updates to stop?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 13, 2009
I used ubuntuzilla to install 3.5.2 on my IBM T43 Notebook. I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty with all the newest updates.
But now the ubdate notifier can't stop sending me updates about the OLD firefox. 3.1.? I think... It says "firefox" "firefox-gnome support" etc.
It's really rather annoying, and instead of clicking "update now," I have to filter the old firefox stuff out before I update.
Any way to get that thing to shut up?
Sorry if this has already been posted... kinda slipped my mind to use the search function... but if you don't mind, I'd still like some answers HERE instead of just "USE THE SEARCH, NOOB!" responses.
Just checked... seems to me it hasn't already been posted... unless I'm not searching for the right thing
Where does Ubuntu store user set theme ?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 21, 2007
Customizing the Ubuntu LiveCD and onto the final touches.
I can't find where Ubuntu stores the system wide default theme and where it stores a user selected theme.
I tried editing /etc/gdm/gdm.conf and /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom to set the GtkTheme value but nothing.
So I have just edited the Human theme to suit. But now the icons. I made a custom theme in a liveCD and saved it, put it in /etc/skel/.themes so it is available to all new users. But how does one set the system or a user to use a particular theme ? Which file is it ?
Any help on this would be great!
Can't delete user!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 29, 2009
EDIT: I found my answer in this thread. So, howcome the GUI Users and Groups button to delete a user doesn't work?
Hmm well this is odd!
I created a new user called "newuser" so I could customize my guest session by setting up newuser's account how I wanted it, then copying over his home directory to /etc/skel.
This works great, my guest account now saves my settings... but, I want to delete newuser now as i'm finished with him... but he refuses to go!!
I go to users and groups and unlock, then delete, but when I close the window and re-open it, he's back again!
I even completely removed his home directory, but he still keeps appearing... wtf!
vsftpd won't delete user
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2013
I've installed vsftpd on my machine to ease up the process of transfering files.
I have added a new user called Snitz and gave it permission to /home/Snitz/
All is good for now.
But I originally intended to gain access to /home/mycode/
because that's where my site's files are stored.
So I tried added a new user named "mycode" but it kept saying user already exists and I do not know what the password is.
So I tried deleting the user:
sudo userdel mycode
but it kept saying user is currently logged in.
I tried disconnecting:
but I got logged out of my root username.
