error fd0: read error on freshly installed Ubuntu Server 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 13, 2013
I just installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 LTS on a virtual machine. During system boot I receive error fd0: read error. I repeated the installation on another machine and received the same error. I downloaded the iso file again and installed it but no luck. System continues and boots after this error but why I am receiving this error on a fresh installation?

grub problem/fd0 read error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 13, 2012
I recently installed the newest version of ubunut server a week ago. New to ubuntu and linux the server. Wanted to start learning it. Anyhow, when i rebooted my system periodically while playing around with it I started getting a fd0 read error. Per instructions online I did this:
Wasn't sure what it would actually do. No i realize it causes the system to boot into grub. Well I have no idea what to do to get my system back. I'm looked through help, online, whatever. I'm totally flustered now. I just want my system to boot back into my ubuntu server OS. I never want to see grub again and I want to get rid of the fd0 read error. Can someone please help me!!
when i do a 'ls' i get:
ubuntu-server-swap_1 ubuntu-server-root hdo hdo,msdos5 hdo,msdos1 fdo
ubuntu-server-root is the one that I shoudl be trying to get. ubuntu-server is what i named it when i did the install of the OS.

Enabling my card reader + fd0: read error
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 30, 2012
I've seen information on the web for either of these respectively but not sure how to connect the dot's between the two things. Let me explain...
My internal card reader (a Rosewill RCR-AK-IM5002) seems to show up in my firmware as a floppy device. I've seen information in a bug report about the fd0: read error where people are saying disable floppy support in your firmware and it goes away. Well I'm not sure if doing that would clobber my internal card reader. Actually, I've not done anything to verify whether it even works (I just assume as much because it shows up in my firmware's splash screen during POST. And there's another detail... Actually, the fd errros I get when computer is booting is not just "fd0: read error" but...
fd0: read error
fd1: read error
fd0: read error
fd1: read error
then it proceeds to show me the grub menu for a moment, then boots up. It's annoying and it causes a delay.
Can someone help me out on this compound issue (making sure my

NOTE: Google Chrome is having some issues with drop-down lists and I can't see them, would a mod please change the prefix to the appropriate one?I Think [Ubuntu] is good enough, but if there's a better one... Thanks.
So I just got a crash with some numbers and a "not enough swap space" error, and I'm wondering if there's an error log that Ubuntu wrote somewhere. Any help? I think it's an OS issue and not a program issue.
Thanks in advance.

I was trying to dual boot windows XP pro with ubuntu hardy heron (ubuntu installed first) and I used this guide: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_l...lled_first.htm . I thought everything was fine, windows was installed, then I went into Gparted (GNOME partition editor) everything looked to be fine, I flagged the ubuntu partition as the "boot" partition and made sure that the "boot" flag was off the windows partition, then took the Gparted dvdr out restarted and I get this message:

From there I cant press anything, cant hit escape, cant type anything, what could be wrong?
Ubuntu Error: autorunning software Permission denied
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 24, 2009
I will keep this short. New to Linux/Ubuntu.
I bought a used HP W Ubuntu 8.04. I want to install
my wireless adapter software but keep getting an error
message that says: Error autorunning software. Error
starting auto run program Permission denied.
I suspect this is because the software was written for
Windows and cant run on Linux. I also think this
computer was part of a network and I need to
change those settings. I am kind of new at all of this
How do I get my Linksys software to run, and how do I
change my computer to run off a wireless router.
