Windows boot error, fix with Ubuntu?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 4, 2006
I am dual booting from Windows XP to Dapper and I switch almost every day and today I could not boot up XP (Dapper is fine). I would get an error message in the middle of the splash screen that was only on the screen for about a half a second and then my computer would restart. I had to take a video of it, then put it on my mac, pause on that frame and take a screenshot of the video. I have attached the picture.
I was wondering if there is a way with Ubuntu to fix this missing file. (I think i can see the windows HDD with ubuntu, so mabye i could add the missing file on it?)

Put CD in
boot to install menu
replace "splash quiet --"
with all_generic_ide pci=routeirq
Note: you may only need to replace "splash quiet --" with all_generic_ide
you need to set "all_generic_ide" in your kernel parameter one more time on first boot after you install.
go down one row, press e, you are going to edit the kernel boot parameter...
replace "splash quiet --" with "all_generic_ide", no quotes.
computer should boot up.
after boot up, go into /boot/grub/menu.lst and change the kernel boot option the same way. Each time the updates include a kernel update, you will need to do this..
I have seen this problem on two Dell workstations.
Hope this helps someone.
Note: I believe this works with

NOTE: Google Chrome is having some issues with drop-down lists and I can't see them, would a mod please change the prefix to the appropriate one?I Think [Ubuntu] is good enough, but if there's a better one... Thanks.
So I just got a crash with some numbers and a "not enough swap space" error, and I'm wondering if there's an error log that Ubuntu wrote somewhere. Any help? I think it's an OS issue and not a program issue.
Thanks in advance.

I was trying to dual boot windows XP pro with ubuntu hardy heron (ubuntu installed first) and I used this guide: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_l...lled_first.htm . I thought everything was fine, windows was installed, then I went into Gparted (GNOME partition editor) everything looked to be fine, I flagged the ubuntu partition as the "boot" partition and made sure that the "boot" flag was off the windows partition, then took the Gparted dvdr out restarted and I get this message:
Verifying DMI pool data...................Update Success

From there I cant press anything, cant hit escape, cant type anything, what could be wrong?
Ubuntu Error: autorunning software Permission denied
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 24, 2009
I will keep this short. New to Linux/Ubuntu.
I bought a used HP W Ubuntu 8.04. I want to install
my wireless adapter software but keep getting an error
message that says: Error autorunning software. Error
starting auto run program Permission denied.
I suspect this is because the software was written for
Windows and cant run on Linux. I also think this
computer was part of a network and I need to
change those settings. I am kind of new at all of this
How do I get my Linksys software to run, and how do I
change my computer to run off a wireless router.

This is my current filesystem settings (i know it's trashy but i didn't think it through before setting it up):

The grub menu.lst was auto-generated by the ubuntu installer. All works well, except when i want to boot fedora, it says something about 'can't find LABEL /ubuntu'. I've also tried editing editing the FC6 entry so it resembles with ubuntu's (got the UUID from fstab) but this generated a kernel panic. These are the entries:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=UUID=12c8a11c-ff66-48a1-b16e-037cc8f955b0 ro splash

Windows 7 with Ubuntu : Error incompatible license Grub rescue
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 9, 2012
I work on windows 7 but I needed linux for my studies so I installed it on a partition of my hard disc.
Yesterday I downloaded an update of Ubuntu and in the evening I realized that my computer could neither start on Windows nor on Ubuntu.
When I start it, I see the usual first screen on which I can press "F2" for Setup, and then I have a black screen with :
"Error incompatible license
written on it.
I read on some forums that some people already had this kind of problem but contrary to my, they were used to linux and I did not really understand what things like a "boot" are.
The thing is that the files I want to rescue are on Windows, if I need to delete Ubuntu from my pc, it is not a problem (I would like to be able to use again the partition one what I installed Ubuntu if it is possible.)
A friend's dad thinks it is a problem linked with the "Master Boot Record" but he was'nt here to solve the problem, so i
Ubuntu error message
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 2, 2010
Was unable to install the Ubuntu 9.10 CD on an older computer. Got an error message:
12.1128041 Kernal panic - not syncing: out of memory no killable processes.
Tried the various choices on the Ubuntu screen and still got the above error message. I have used the CD on an older computer before and it worked well. I was under the impression that the Ubuntu CD was acceptable on older computers so I am puzzled by the error message.
