[13.10] ubuntu default session doesnt work when cinnamon is installed?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 26, 2013
Hi everyone, I just upgraded to 13.10 and reinstalled all my packages, one particular software I want is nemo as I really dislike the new nautilus.
But after installation of nemo (which also installs cinnamon), I can't login with the ubuntu default session, I can login if i select "Cinnamon" when logging in... As for error message, either I see the message "Unable to load session 'ubuntu' or I will just get thrown back to login screen.
Have tried a couple of times, executing "sudo apt-get remove --purge nemo* cinnamon*" solves the problem and reinstalling them cause the problem to resurface.

Use SSH to start a background process on a remote server, and exit session
- date: January 1, 1970
I am using SSH to start a background process on a remote server. This is what I have at the moment:
ssh [email protected]
"nohup process &"
This works, in that the process does start. But the SSH session itself does not end until I hit Ctr-C.
When I hit Ctr-C, the remote process continues to run in the background.
I would like to place the ssh command in a script that I can run locally, so I would like the ssh session to exit automatically once the remote process has started.
Is there a way to make this happen?
Ubuntu: exit sudo after a bash command?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I have Ubuntu 10.04. Certain operations in the Terminal application or operations require me to type sudo [whatever command] and my password. I have noticed the effects of sudo last for awhile; five minutes or so.
How can I explicitly exit sudo and go back to being me at the command prompt?
Start mongrel in ssh session and then exit in Ubuntu 10.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 6, 2010
I'm deploying a Rails application in a Ubuntu 10.04 server with
mongrel web server (a lightweight http web server). I connect to server and do stuffs in a ssh client
(PuTTY on windows). And I'm getting stuck with a strange issue:
1. After I connected to server, I start mongrel with : $ start-stop-
daemon -S -d . -x script/server -b -- -p 8080
2. I left the ssh console and launch firefox from my Win7 box and open
the website, it runs well. I can see the homepage
3. I go back to the ssh console. Close the terminal (and window too)
it by : $ exit
4. Then in firefox, I press F5 to refresh and nothing shows up. It's
just an empty space in whole webpage. I tried to use addon to capture
the HTTP data and see that the server returns nothing , even HTTP
5. I connect to server again, run "ps -Af" to check and see that the process's still running. And again, leave the console, switch to firefox and refresh -> the homepage shows everything.
6. But if

Ubuntu server variable session php error
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 4, 2012
Hi, I hope you can help me with a problem. Some years ago I developed a gis with apache + php + mapserver + postgresql + postgis + chameleon. I had two systems: one in Windows XP
32bit and the other with Ubuntu Server 9.10 32bit. I upgraded to v3.0.2 MS4W with (MapServer 5.6.6, PHP 5.3.6, Apache 2.2.17 with OpenSSL 0.9.8o) with Chameleon 2.6rc, PostgreSQL 9 and PostGIS 1.5 on
windows and have installed on the server a Ubuntu Server 11.10 64bit with Mapserver 5.6.6, PHP 5.3.6-13, Apache 2.2.20, Chameleon 2.6rc, PostgreSQL 9 and PostGIS 1.5.
In windows everything works fine without any error, but in linux all the gis works well except the generation of map images. Chameleon gives me the following error:
"Error rendering map image:
A fatal error has occurred restoring your session.
Please restart the application ".
This error occurs randomly, ie sometimes appear soon after starting the web that maps samples and sometimes tear good maps and after interacting with buttons such
Ubuntu Won't load: Exit status 0x0009

I tried installing the proprietary driver on my video card because my computer was running too hot. I let ubuntu do everything and when I tried to restart my computer the screen went black. I found a possible solution in another forum, basically deleting the config file that sets the driver. However, I tried using recovery mode and a live cd and whenever i do I get an error that saysWhen I run it in recovery mode it says '/sbin/modprobe -be pci: [numbers]' unexpected exit with status 0x0009. Here is where it stops (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5952515/IMAG0338.jpg). Any ideas on how to get passed this so that i can delete the right file?
