Font Manager (Please)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 17, 2005
It would be really nice to have GUI's for everything, and one basic GUI that is missing is for installing fonts. It surprises me that this is not already a basic feature of Gnome. And while I don't mind the 'sudo nautilus' option, this is not for everyone.
My problem is that I can not program in any advanced languages, and do not have the time at the moment to learn. If someone would like an easy project, please, PLEASE have a look at this one.
I did have a little play around in Glade and came up with the attached design. It needs work, but it is a beginning for someone to finish off.
If someone already knows of a good program (I mean nice to look at, simple etc.) then can they please get it built into Gnome. Or if there is a better place to post this let me know.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to read this.

The Ubuntu Font Family
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 16, 2010
It looks awesome, but sadly it's only default in 10.10 and the only public PPAs available are for 10.04 and 9.04. So, I thought I'd help to fix that. Below, you will find the Ubuntu Font Family (regular, bold, italic, and bold italic) with the license as per the terms of the Ubuntu Font License 1.0.
To use it on just your account, you can put it in the folder ~/.fonts (which you may have to make first) or you can put it under /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ if you have root access. Unzip it and make sure the permissions are set to 755 (command: chmod -R 755 ubuntu-font-family) so that you can start using them.
To set up the appearance to match Ubuntu 10.10, you'll need to set all fonts (except monospace) to Ubuntu (bold for window title) and font sizes to 11. Once you do, your system font will look like Ubuntu 10.10's font scheme.

Ubuntu vs Fedora: same font settings yet different look
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 26, 2009
I have two systems running side by side: Ubuntu 9.04 and Fedora 10. Both with GNOME, both out of the box with no customizations, same monitor, same video card.
I have set both to 96dpi resolution, size 10 font, and made sure all the other font settings were the same. Yet, for some unknown reason, Fedora's GUI fonts look so much smaller (which is what I want).
How come Ubuntu's settings don't match? I have tried changing the font size down to 8 or 9, but still can't match it. What gives?
