How to renew git client on Ubuntu?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
Whenever I use git command, I get this warning:
Your version of git is 1.9.1. Which has serious security vulnerabilities.
More information here: https://blog.heroku.com/archives/2014/12/23/update_your_git_clients_on_windows_and_os_x
But I have Ubuntu. I've tried running sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get upgrade, but it doesn't renew the git client version.

SSH ubuntu machine (client) into windows machine (server) to access lan ip
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 26, 2011
Ok, so here's my question:
I have a ubuntu machine running at home and I want it to be able to SSH into a windows machine inside a lan to access another computer inside a lan. It has to be done in a reverse SSH connection, connecting the windows machine to my ubuntu machine at home so I can send commands to and access resources from ips inside the windows machine lan. Is this possible?
Ubuntu Machine -> Internet -> Router -> windows machine
-> other lan ip
basically the windows machine would work as a proxy server to access the resources inside the lan.
Thank you so much in advance!
problems connecting ubuntu smb client to windows 7 server
- date: October 28, 2010
Hi all, I am trying to connect my ubuntu 10.10 client to my windows 7 file/print server. I can browse to my windows network via places->network. I can see my windows servers. When I double click on them, I am prompted with username, domain, and password. After I enter these, I am continually prompted for my password. I know that I have my username/domain/password correct (I use them from other windows machines to connect.)
I have also tried to connect to a server with the following:
share: Media (I know this exists with the appropriate capitalization)
user name: jordan
domain name: THOMPCO
(prompts for a password later, and I enter my password on the server)
Here is what I get from nmblookup:
:~$ nmblookup -A 192.168.1.5
Looking up status of 192.168.1.5
ANDREA <00> - B <ACTIVE>
THOMPCO <00> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
VMware tools installation fails on Ubuntu Lucid client at VMware Server 2.0.2
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 4, 2010
I try to install the vmware tools (delivered from the linux.iso included in vmware server 2.0.2) following an this artkicle:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VM...ols#Installing VMware tools on Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu Guests
Installation is no problem but vmware-config-tools.py-script fails and displays many errors. it seems to me, that the tools from the vmware server 2.0.2 and ubuntu 10.4 doesn't fix any more. I could reproduce this on an Windows-7/64-Bit host, Windows-xp-host, and an Ubuntu-10.4/64 host with freshly installed Ubuntu 10.4 64/32-bit server or Ubuntu 10.4 Desktop, 32 bit.
After starting /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl-script the messages from the beginning seemed to me quite like a a problem:
Stopping VMware Tools services in the virtual machine:
Guest operating system daemon: done
insserv: warning: script 'K01acpi-support' missing LSB tags and overrides
insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (0 2 3 5
Ubuntu Thin Client for Dummies
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 26, 2012
This kind of developed from out of nowhere, but I'm hoping I can get support on building a small, simple thin client network using Ubuntu. The idea was brought up by Roelforg in this thread, but I'll just summarise the key bits.
I work in a secondary school that has developed an extraordinarily complicated network, that has been mended by applying patch over patch, until it finally got to the stage that not even our managed providers could really remember what was doing what.
This Summer, it seems likely that we'll wipe the slate clean and start again. I'm personally a huge Ubuntu/opensource fan, but the gamble is too great to persuade the school to jump in. Therefore, I've convinced the head to give me 15 legacy machines, and show what can be done with Ubuntu.
The big sell for him will be cost, and maybe to a lesser extent being able to use legacy machines. Therefore it would be helpful if whatever I can do ends up being scaleable - it may get (a lot) bigger
set up Ubuntu LDAP client to authenticate against OS X ldap server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 24, 2008
I originally posted this here by mistake but moved it once I realized that this forum is for server releases (my installation is not one of the server releases)
However, after a week with no responses in the general and the networking forums, I've decided to repost it here with the hopes that you server gurus might know more about my problem or can direct me to a good place to get help. (the networking forum seems mostly involved in diagnosing simpler network config issues)
Here is the original message:
I am trying to configure the ldap client on one of my Ubuntu(8.04.1) Machines to authenticate against an LDAP database hosted on an OS X(10.4.11) server.
I installed the following packages per these instructions: libpam-ldap libnss-ldap nss-updatedb libnss-db
then I proceeded to manually edit parts of the config files where applicable (eg. 'host' in /etc/ldap.conf)
after I finished configuring things, I ran "getent passwd" to see if the configur
Top Ubuntu Twitter Client?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 4, 2009
Does anybody have an opnion on the best twitter client for Ubuntu? I'm primarily looking for something that integrates with Jaunty's notification system. It can be Adobe AIR or not, open source or not. But I'm spoiled by the notifications system now
