What Ubuntu PC games can I play?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 5, 2013
I have a System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) which is now discontinued. It has an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5-3210M CPU with built-in integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000.
I know that this is not as powerful as a Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M, but what kind of Ubuntu PC games can I expect to play at 1366 X 768 resolution?
Here is a list of Steam for Ubuntu Linux PC games that I currently own:
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Aquaria
Awesomenauts
Bastion
Brutal Legend
Capsized
Costume Quest
Crusader Kings II
DOTA 2
English Country Tune
Frozen Synapse
Hotline Miami
Intrusion 2
Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded in the Land of Lounge Lizards
Little Inferno
Oil Rush
Organ Trail: Director's Cut
Penumbra: Overture
Portal
Portal 2
Proteus
Psychonauts
The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief
Rochard
Stacking
Stealth Bastard Deluxe
Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery EP
Thomas Was Alone
Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers
Waking Mars
I know that it can't play all of these titles at maximum graphics
Ubuntu + Crossover Games + Steam
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2011
Hi folks,
I've been using Wine to run Steam forever and it works passably well. However, there are several games I've been unable to play and so I just downloaded the most recent demo of Crossover Games in the hopes that it might be able to get some of these games working.
However, I'm stumped as to how one installs Steam games from Crossover Games. When the crossover games interface seems to require that you either select a disc, a folder, or an installation file, but if you want to install a Steam game, you won't necessarily have any of these?
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Ben

iMac Platinum, ubuntu and games

I have a new iMac Core2 2.66 GHz system on order. I hope to use Boot Camp to partition the drive and install ubuntu as a second OS. My question is, will I be able to run a Win XP flight simulator on it? Specifically, IL2 1946. As this is nearly the only Windows software I want to run, being able to do this is critical to even bothering with Boot Camp.
Obviously, my goal is to have a Microsoft-free zone but I really like ILs as a Flight Sim. Soooo... Help, help, help!
(Thanks)
Ubuntu noob + Games = problems!

So, I am not so much of a gamer, but do enjoy a couple of them. So, let's go for stages...
1-Runescape: Don't know much about the game, but my neighbor does and he just decided to install Linux to get away from the "viruses that were eating his computer alive" - he's 14... anyway, the game is online and java based, I installed him sun-java-jre6 and changed in the web page, the option to unsigned applet using default java. This slows down the graphics and he is not so happy about it. He wants it in high details as on windows, maybe it's not possible, but i promised to check.
2-Habbo: He also plays Habbo. For this one, I had to install him a windows version of Firefox through wine so that I could install shockwave and he could play. Again, graphics are horribles, with black boxes and a very low resolution making impossible to play.
3-Bejeweled: I installed this one for me on my computer. But at the end I get a message about being unable to create a link to popcap.com a

Hey everyone!
I feel like I've been away for so long, when in actuality, I've just been maintaining our own community over at Category5. Hope you're all well!
Just did a feature on Category5 tonight where I demonstrated 18 great games in Ubuntu that are freely available and installable directly from Synaptic Package Manager, making them the ultimate games for new Linux users (as they're SO easy to install). Hoping that the fact that we show each game in the video will help you find at least a few games that you'll really enjoy on your Ubuntu system.
I wanted to share the video with the Ubuntu community, so here it is:

Happy gaming, Ubuntu users!
