install mysql,php en ubuntu 5.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 22, 2006
Hi, I am currently using ubuntu 5.10 (one CD) and it appears that mysql and php donīt come in the CD, so I try to download those packages from the web, so I tried to install them using "dpkg -i mysql...." but I needed more "dependencies" to download, but after I try to install some packages (stdc++, perlclientoff, etc), obviously They didnīt work because they need more dependencies, so my questions are:
1. After that OpenOffice and some other apps donīt work, I presume that is because the packages donīt installa correclty, but How can I step back to cancel these bad install packages? because I donīt want to reinstall openoffice.
2. Can you give some tips for install php and mysql in ubuntu?, I dindīt find mysql and php in DEB packages formats.

LXer: How To Install MySQL 5.6 On Ubuntu 12.10 (Including memcached Plugin)

According to What's New in MySQL 5.6, MySQL 5.6 will bring some performance improvements over MySQL 5.5. If you want to test out MySQL 5.6, you have to install one of the development releases from the MySQL downloads page because there is no stable release yet. This tutorial explains how to install the MySQL 5.6.8rc1 (Linux Generic) development release on an Ubuntu 12.10 server.
how to determine ubuntu version and upgrade php/mysql with Plesk
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 24, 2010
I am trying to determine which version of Ubuntu we have installed on our Webfusion VPS in order to see how to update to specific php and mysql versions needed for installing some software.
uname -a gives this:
Linux [hostname] 2.6.18-028stab070.2 #1 SMP Tue Jul 6 14:34:09 MSD 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I don't see anything that matches up to any of the Ubuntu releases. Is there any other way to determine what we have?
We have Plesk 9.5.2 on the machine.
Certain software we need to install requires PHP 5.2.10+ and Mysql 5.2+
but we currently have PHP 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.12 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 and Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a
Please can someone advise how to get the required versions of php and mysql (without breaking Plesk)? I tried editing /etc/apt/sources.list to add a new repository and using apt-get upgrade php but I probably did not add the correct repository.
Grateful for any advice.
