Ubuntu NTP Server in HyperV does not synchronize time with external NTP sources
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 5, 2013
There is a virtual machine with Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS x64 that is running inside of Hyper-V Server 2012 hypervisor. NTPD daemon is up and running on Ubuntu, but it does not synchronize with external NTP servers. The required ports are open. NTP traffic on UDP ports 123 are permitted and flows. Ntpq -p and ntptrace commands consistently show STRATUM 16, ie, server is not synchronized with the external NTP servers.

php scripts run on Ubuntu 14.04 server, phpmyadmin does not
location: linuxexchange.com - date: December 31, 2014
Not sure where to go here, been looking all over the place for an answer; so, I figured I'd try here. I have an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server running apache2, mysql, php5, etc. All is running fine, my one website (which is almost entirely written in PHP) runs perfectly: accesses database and everything. My problem is that I cannot get on to phpmyadmin. Everythime I go to http://ip.address/phpmyadmin it wants to download a file instead of running the script. Everything was working fine up to about a week ago; and, I do not recall changing any settings that would have gummed up the works. I do a lot of my database work away from home; and use phpmyamin quite frequently to change and update things. so, this issue is quite the annoyance. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know what information I should post for everyone to look at; I haven't the first idea of where to start looking.
Thanks
Edit - I should add that I have Virtualmin/webmin installed running three virtual hosts. I h

Ubuntu 11.04 64bit does not recognize Windows 7 partition
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 25, 2011
When I try to install Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit, it shows that my entire hard drive is completely empty, even though I have a 300GB partition with Windows 7 (x64) installed and bootable. I had originally installed Ubuntu and tried to get Windows to recognize the partition and it was able to see Linux, but refused to create and install to a bootable partition on the same hard drive. The hard drive is a 2TB Western Digital (WD20EARS).
Any help would be appreciated, I've tried to google but only found cases where Ubuntu showed no free space, not where it showed only free space.
[SOLVED] Ubuntu laptop recognizes but does not connect to HTC wifi hotspot on my android phone
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 3, 2012
Hello I have a laptop that has Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed. For some odd reason I am unable to connect to my wireless HTC wifi hotspot eventhough my computer sees the network and has full bars but when I click on it to connect it doesnt establish a connection.
Here are the steps that I follow in order to try and connect:
1) I turn on my laptop
2) I turn on the HTC wifi hotspot on my Android cellphone (without any security settings)
3) I click on the wireless icon on my laptop and click on the HTC hotspot network
4) The icon shows the laptop trying to connect but after a few minutes no connection is established.
I would really appreciate any help thanks.

Hi,
Can someone help me on this? I am some kind of a beginner... I will appreciate a good advice on what to do.. Thanks a lot beforehand.
I am afraid that some big update or upgrade can spoil my configuration files or critical applications like apache or mysql...
Anyhow I haven't been able to update my system...
Everytime I try to do: "sudo apt-get update" I get these messages:

New to Linux/Ubuntu, now laptop fan does not work
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 9, 2013
I have an old Dell Latitude D420 that I installed Xubuntu on. I just realized that ever since the reinstall the laptop fan has completely stopped working.
I poked around online and have tried lm-sensors, which detects the CPU temp but doesnt see any fans. I tried pwmconfig and it says I dont have any pwm-capable sensor modules installed. Ive looked in my BIOS but there are not fan control settings available.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ubuntu 12.04.2 does not detect my bluetooth device
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 2, 2013
Hello all.
My laptop is Dell Inspiron 3521 and I am using Ubuntu 12.04.2
The problem is that Ubuntu is not detecting my Bluetooth device. Its an inbuilt device and has a hardware lock as well as soft lock feature.
I remember, when I installed Ubuntu initially, it used to detect my BT, though it doesn't used to search devices. But, now, after updating Ubuntu, it does not detect BT at all. I have tried turning it on-off several times, but no success.
Ubuntu 13.10 Laptop Does not Suspend or Resume

I could understand a couple of years ago when my laptop was brand new that Linux might not support it completely, but a couple of years have gone by and the support is getting worse, not better.
Frequently I close the laptop and the system keeps running. Obviously this means that it quickly runs the battery down, but it also means that the system overheats if I have put it into a backpack or a briefcase without noticing that the system has ignored the fact that it was supposed to shut down! The following is the dmesg output from such a case:

Ubuntu 10.04 64bit : does not detect Wireless LAN carriers
location:

System (laptop): HP Pavilion g6-1c77nr
Operating system: Ubuntu 10.04 64bit, kernel 2.6.32-33
Problem: this system cannot detect the Wireless LAN carrier.
Assumption: the system does not have the correct Wireless LAN driver.
Looking at the HP support site and talking to the folks there, it seems that this laptop is integrating the Realtek RTL8188CE as Wireless LAN adapter.
Therefore, from Realtek.com I did download the Linux driver for kernel 2.6.34 (and earlier).
I followed the instructions in the readme.txt (embedded in the driver tar file) and tried to install the driver.
It failed at this point (see the Error 2):
