Ubuntu on Laptop Toshiba Satellite P75A7200 i74700MQ HD4600
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 9, 2013
First, I am new on the forums, but I have been using Linux for about 2 years now in my desktop computer.
I just bought a Laptop. Toshiba satellite P75-A7200.
It has Windows 8 preinstalled
For what I have read, the processor and video architecture are rather new. I have not found any other thread that is having this issue:
I want to have dual boot on this computer, but before installing, I wanted to test using the LiveCD.
I followed the instructions to disable fast boot and Windows 8 fast boot feature from here:
However, when I tried to boot from the LiveCD I got a black screen after selecting the option to try ubuntu or install ubuntu.
After reading the forums I found and used the option "nomodeset", which allowed the boot process complete and get to a command prompt session, but the gui is not working.
If I use startx, it fails. The log says that screens were found, but non is usable.

My laptop came with window 8.1. I want to dual boot it with Ubuntu. I install Ubuntu 12.04 on a live USB drive. When I tried to just test it out it would always show a black screen. So I did some digging around and saw I need to press e before I select to test it out. Then I delete splash and quiet and replace it with nomodeset. I also tried radeon.modeset=0 . Both of those would just bring me to the terminal only. I tried to type starx and it says no screen found.
I decide to go ahead and install it to see it it may work. I was able to go through the process. I even saw the desktop in the background and was able to set up my wifi and all. While it was ins

Ok, well I just got my dual-boot problem solved. Now another issue has arrived. I can't get any sound from Ubuntu on my Toshiba Satellite p105-s6024. My buddy says that I need to find out what sound card I have, but I am clueless when it comes to computer hardware. I know that I need to get a driver for it, but i can't get one unless i know what sound card i have. Could somebody please help me figure this out?

ubuntu on toshiba Satellite L505GS5035

I want my laptop have two operative system windows 7 and ubuntu 9.04 my laptop is Satellite L505-GS5035, is it possible?, I can't install ubuntu. I wrote to toshiba and they said:
From what I understand the iCore chipset isn't supported by any of the older versions of the 'Buntu's due to the kernel they use. Only 10.4 has built in support for them. If you can get through the install process with 9.04 or 9.10 some people have been able to keep it running long enough to update the kernal to 2.6.33 or later which is the earliest kernel that supports the iCores.
Have i try with the ubuntu 10.4?
Can't boot live Fedora / Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite C40C10K
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 5, 2015
I recently bought the laptop below without checking for linux compatibility:
It's evidently part of this series:
(I got lured in because it was relatively cheap, ~200 euro).
I tried to run live Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu USB sticks, but failed.
For details of what I did, see below.
Can anybody assess from the specs provided on the Toshiba site what the problem might be and if there is any hope of installing (any brand of) linux?
The laptop is UEFI only (i.e. doesn't provide an option to fall back to BIOS-compatible booting), which seems to exclude the Debian Live disc which at present doesn't seem to support UEFI.
As for Ubuntu and Fedora, the USB sticks from which I tried to boot did present an on-screen menu of boot options. When typing "c" I could enter commands like &q
Slow UBUNTU on Toshiba Satellite l650d graphics not working?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 28, 2012
I've been on Ubuntu for some time and I can't get rid of a feeling it is slower than it should. I mean, my hardware specs are not that bad(AMD Athlon II Dual-Core P320, RAM 4GB, ATI Radeon HD4200 512MB) so it shouldn't take 20 seconds to load LibreOffice's Calc, should it? I'm suspecting my graphic driver is not doing its job, but I don't know much about this. There are two options in System > Drivers: one of them calls an error on activation and doesn't even start working and the other turns green and crazy things start happening (menus are cut 45 degrees, things disappearing and appearing again...) I was lucky to turn it off again. I am still on ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome-shell

My hard drive just recently became terminally corrupted, so I had to wipe it and start over. I installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my Toshiba Satellite A105, and everything seems to be going smoothly. However, I can not for the life of me figure out how to utilize the laptop's built-in wifi. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
