Quadboot Ubuntu / Kubuntu 11.10, PCLinuxOS 2011 and Fedora 16... GRUB2 Help
- date: December 5, 2011
Ello.. I'm making a quad boot system with 6 partitions (1 is swap, 4 is main os'es and 5th is a testing part for the trying of other os).
I knew something like this would happen because since PCLOS uses GRUB Legacy it'd cause some commotion, but how do I get it to boot in this condition?

Hello, Im new to using Linux machines and I wanted to set up a web/ftp server on my home network so I installed Ubuntu Server 11.10 on a computer and got it working following these instructions
I successively installed proftp and am able to telnet into my server from my windows 7 laptop, but I am not sure how to upload a webpage from my windows laptop to the var/www directory of my server. I tried using fileZilla but I could only upload to my home directory and it would not give me access to var/www. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 9, 2011
i have downloaded a deb package... wine asio deb package... i want to use it with the nord modular g2 demo software.. which is an modular synthesizer.. it is very good... the demo software has full functionality of the G2 Hardware device but not polyphon.. well how ever... if you want a modular synthesizer this is a very good choice...
try out Nord Modular G2 Demo Software yourself... it is Windows so you need to use wine.. works very well
but this is not the problem...
i want to use wine asio so... so i can record / sample the stuff i did at the nord modular g2 demo software via jackd into renoise... i think you get me...
i have downloaded wine asio deb file from another thread in this forum... but how do i install deb package in studio 11.10?
in normal 11.10 i can just right click and select install with software installer

enable or disable deskup gui for ubuntu server 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 16, 2012
I have a fresh install of 11.10 with openssh, LAMP, webmin and all the latest and greatest updates/patches for the OS. I'm not entirely new to Linux but I am to a linux server. Just as a note this machine will NOT be accessible from outside my LAN and more than likely will only be running for a month before I try another distro (before ultimately coming back to ubuntu especially since I hear 12 will be coming out before long and it will have LTS)
I would like to know if there is a way for me to install a minimal desktop environment as I've found, for me, it's just easier at times to complete certain tasks. Now I have read on the few commands it would take to install 'ubuntu-desktop' and I think it was 'gdm' but for the sake of it being a server can I have the machine boot as normal to a prompt and use it command line only (I love webmin but am trying to steer away from it) with the ability to start the x environment for 20 or so mins if need be then drop back down to a command prompt
HP Proliant DL160 G6 running Ubuntu Server 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 12, 2012
I have Ubuntu Server 11.10 setup on a HP Proliant DL160 G6 and have been trying to figure out how I can monitor the Raid and hardware of the server. I came across the below:
So I am a little confused. Do i need to download Ubuntu Server 9.04 and install that or should Server 11.10 be able to monitor the hardware? Basically before I setup a full blown KVM with a file server and other stuff I want to make sure I can monitor the raid and other server components so I know if a drive is going bad or other issues are happening. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated I know very little about linux it is new to me.
Note when I run
lspci | grep -i raid

Ubuntu Server 11.10 BondingVLANBridge
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 5, 2011
I just wanted to post this as a possible help to someone.
I have several Ubuntu servers running Ganeti and vserver hosts.
(I chose Ganeti for my mostly static Virtualized environment)
I have two interfaces in each Server
All traffic traverses some sort of VLAN
Bond the interfaces together Create Vlan interfaces Create a bridge for each vlan for the virtual machine instances
I was able to get a working configuration from a post atFloatingToll. Unfortunately I ran into a problem during reboot similar to Bug 574456.
Initally I was able to make it all work by using a modprobe alias for bonding. However, Scott Phelps (from Bug 574456) pointed out that my configuration, while operational was not appropriate for the ubuntu hotplug way of doing things. On his advice I made a few alterations, got rid of the modprobe alias and I am down to this /etc/network/interfaces (only) configuration.

Will LTSP work in Ubuntu Server 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 3, 2012
I am in the process of choosing a proper operating system environment for my office. I have about 120 windows users involved in basic office activities.
I have implemented LTSP in Ubuntu 8 in the past but had few glitches and spent a lot of time troubleshooting as we had different client hardware like laptops, desktops etc.
My question is will LTSP work in Ubuntu Server 14.04? If yes, how easy or tough is it configure different client hardware, drivers etc.
I am surprised LTSP is not mentioned in the list of features for Ubuntu Server in the website.
