Install Apache, Mysql, PHP on Ubuntu Desktop Edition via Ubuntu Server CD
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 16, 2011
I am running Windows XP Pro and the latest edition of Virtualbox. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 Server Edition on a Virtual Drive within the latest version of Virtualbox. I also installed Apache, Mysql and PHP after selecting the LAMP installation option on the server CD. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to learn how to access and use Apache, Mysql, and PHP via the terminal. I am a GUI person!
I therefore created another virtual drive and installed Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop Edition on the new virtual drive in Virtualbox. I connect to the internet via a mobile phone at expensive rates, so I do not want to download the Apache, Mysql, PHP software directly from the repository via my Ubuntu Desktop Edition. I would prefer to install Apache, Mysql and PHP directly from the .iso file that I have for the Ubuntu 11.04 Server.
My Question is:
What are the series of commands that I must type into the terminal window within Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop Edition to retrieve and install the Apache, Mys

ubuntu 12.04 mysql user log in error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 16, 2013
Hi everybody! This is my first post. I am working on defining a mysql database for use in my application. Don't want to use root user to update my tables. So, defined a new user using phpmysql interface and limited user access to a specific database and table. Everything seems to be fine but I can not log into mysql with the new user name. Get an error message saying user can not log in.
I am using mysql 5.5 on ubuntu 12.04. Any ideas?
configuring ubuntu for apache home server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 16, 2008
hi all.My setup at present is a hp pavillion dv2000 laptop running ubuntu 6.10 edgy eft that is connected to a router which in turn is connected to a cable modem. The router dynamically assigns my ip address from its pool of addresses.Am i right in thinking that i need to configure ubuntu and the router to use a static ip address in order for me to receive inbound requests for apache and to enable stable port forwarding from the router?.Therefore Please could someone tell me how to configure ubuntu-6.10 edgy to come up on the same static address for every boot.I mean the file(s) to put the static address in and the syntax for that file or failing that a way to configure this via a GUI.
Also if static(or is that sticky)dhcp is easier or preferable could someone tell me how to configure that.
Thankx in advance
[SOLVED] ubuntu server: change mysql port & phpmyadmin
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 24, 2011
I have 2 questions about changing the mysql port:
1)I changed my mysql port by editing the "my.cnf" file.
But there were 2 default "port 3306" entries.
One under "[mysqld]" and one under "[client]".
Do I change both entries, so the one under "[mysqld]" AND the one under "[client]"?
2)After changing the port, I installed phpmyadmin: "apt-get install phpmyadmin"
After installing phpmyadmin, which files must I edit in the phpmyadmin settings?
So far I have found these files which have port settings:
I'm working on a remote VPS, so I only can do it through terminal.

restart apache for php.ini 10.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 1, 2010
I've made changes to session.gc_maxlifetime and max_execution_time in php.ini. It is not showing in the php info (I'm editing the php.ini file it specified in that php info).
I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I've read a few things online saying you have to restart apache for the changes to take effect, but I wanted to make sure since this has never been the case in 8.04.
If I have to restart it is the command:
Would it be different for each situation? Thanks!
