Error installing Wordpress as root site on Ubuntu Server 13.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 24, 2013
I have installed Wordpress using this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/13.04/server...wordpress.html.
I want Wordpress to be available in the root, so I changed the two lines:
Alias /blog /usr/share/wordpress
Alias /blog/wp-content /var/lib/wordpress/wp-content
in this file: /etc/apache2/sites-available/wordpress
Alias / /usr/share/wordpress
Alias /wp-content /var/lib/wordpress/wp-content
but that wasn't enough, because I get no response from the URL http://<server>/wp-admin/install.php.
What am I doing wrong?
Ubuntu Server 13.04 static IP on a VM?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 4, 2013
I've trying to assign a hostname and static IP to Ubuntu Server running in a VM.
After installing I edited the etc/network/interfaces :
# The loopback network interfaceauto loiface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
auto eth0iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.242.0 (from VMWARE)
netmask 255.255.255.0 (from VMWARE)
network 192.168.0.0 (I guessed this as I can't find)
broadcast 192.168.242.255 (this was found in VM DHCP settings)
gateway 192.168.242.2 (from VMWARE)
dns-nameservers 184.108.40.206 220.127.116.11
I restarted the network with :/etc/init.d/networking restart
I then edited the etc/hosts file :
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.242.0 server1.example.com server1
Then ran :
echo server1.example.com > /etc/hostname
I can ping the server from the host with IP 192.168.242.0
However, from the VM I can't ping the host nor can I get online or ping a public site.I tried turning off the firewall in the h
sftp (ssh) chroot problem on ubuntu server 13.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 4, 2013
I have an ubuntu 13.04 server running at home as a fileserver. Access to the files is via samba and ssh sftp. The files to share are in /srv/data. /srv is root:root owned with drwxr-xr-x. /srv/data is owned by the only user and group that need access to the files: serveruser:servergroup with drwxrwxr-x.
I have made the default folder for sftp for serveruser /srv/data by changing the home directory for serveruser to that folder. Now I would like to chroot jail serveruser in /srv/data for sftp.
I have tried several configuration options to achieve this in /etc/ssh/sshd_conf:
Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/openssh/sftp-server
Match User serveruserChrootDirectory /srv/data
Filezilla refuses connection with the message "Connection Refused".
Subsystem sftp internal-sftp
Match User serveruserChrootDirectory /srv/data
ubuntu server 13.04 empty /etc/udev/rules.d/70persistentnet.rules
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 23, 2013
When installing ubuntu server 13.04 and got to network setup, the installer gave me options of iface p9p1 and p10p1 rather than the usual eth0, eth1. I picked one and proceeded onwards without difficulty thinking that I could change the names afterwards in the 70-persistent-net.rules file. But that file is completely empty??? Every version of ubuntu I've worked with prior has this file populated with network macaddr, names, etc.
so where are the names defined now?

Ubuntu Server 13.04 Postfix problem
- date: June 14, 2013
I am hosting my own websites and mail server, I have done most everything on this setup with Google searches and figured everything out.
But this one has just stumped me for weeks now and I really need to get it up and working correctly,
I have 3 or 4 virtual Apache sites all working 100% and can receive mail for them all butt I want to be able to send mail from each .com and I keep getting
stuck with only sending from the main domain my server is running from! I have my web/mail server running on hostname "webserver.example.com" of coarse
example.com is not my dot com but was not sure if my real one would violate the TOS of the forum some how. Now the "webserver" part was a pain to get around as well but
figured it out with a bit of mapping to get it to receive/send mail on "[email protected]
" instead of "[email protected]
But I still want too figure out how to get @example + @example1.com + @example2.com + @example3.com with the u
ubuntu server 13.04 ssh lag problems
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 2, 2013
I have upgrade to ubuntu server 13.04 and started to have some problems when i log in with ssh.
When logging in with ssh goes really fast but after i logged in and start entering commands it is delayed by up to 10 seconds.
Have tried ssh to another device and works perfect. All devices are running on my local network. Tried to disable the firewall but still no luck.
Anyone have any ideas where i should look or what my next step should be?
all help is appreciated.
Can't upgrade from Ubuntu server 13.04 to Ubuntu server 13.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 16, 2014
I've been running Ubuntu server since 11.04, and continously upgraded with every new version avilable. In retrospect, however, 13.04 proved to be a mistake for two reasons; I didn't really need it at the time, and I can't seem to upgrade beyond it.
During upgrade (command line; do-upgrade-release -d), I get a number of minor warnings. The most memorable being that Apache2 can't be restarted due to a config test failure. At the end of the upgrade, however, the entire process is abruptly terminated leaving me with the message "system error: E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code 1" and a partially working and entirely unstable system.
Now I can't make heads or tails of this. I have tried upgrading more than once, bearing the hope that this bug - because that's what I think it is - has been rectified. And every single time, I've had to restore the installation from my backup. For now, this is annoying, but eventually it will leave me with an increasingly unusable ins
