Need an Ubuntu alternative to Windows TV Box Edit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 8, 2011
I have a 2002 Oyster Satellite TV system on an R.V and I want to update it using my laptop.
Ten Haaft ( the manufactures ) allow you to download all you need including a program called” TV Box Edit” ( this is apparently the vital bit cos it does the work), then by connecting the laptop to the satellite control box with an RS232 cable you update the system by following their instructions.
However they say it wont work with Linux O.S only Windows.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can use Ubuntu as I don't have Windows.
I appreciate there must be more info wanted by anyone who might be able to help but I didn't want to post lots of not needed stuff until someone said what they needed.
I am still a bit of a newbie!

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 25, 2014
I have an Android TV Box with a Cortex-A9, dual core, 1GB rom, 8GB ram also called MX TV box or MX2.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu, but to install any operating system has to be done through the update on recovery mode, the OS has to be on a zip file, in order for the box to install it.
Any one that has done this installation, or instructions how to built this zip file for installation????

Google TV, despite being launched and relaunched with much pomp and expectations, has not quite managed to reach the market it intended to. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to proclaim that the foray of Internet on our television screens previously has been an utter failure. And this, you see, is despite the fact that there are giants like Apple and Google scampering for the top spot.

I am looking to set up a media PC and originally thought of trying Mythbuntu. This was before Ubuntu announced Ubuntu TV.
I don't know when Ubuntu TV will be released and whether it will be able to install on a regular PC.
So I am debating whether to wait for Ubuntu TV or look at Mythbuntu. Or any other recommended distributions?
I actually will not be tuning into TV, but want to play internet video, physical DVDs and from the hard drive.
