Ubuntu / CentOS / Grub issue
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 15, 2009
I've had Ubuntu installed on my system for awhile now and i recently installed CentOS. I elected to let CentOS install it's own Grub (probably my first mistake). After that, now I don't have an option to boot in to Ubuntu when I start the computer up.
What do i need to edit or change in order to get this back to normal.
Here's what i've got right now.
My original Grub.conf from Ubuntu. (note that the partition that says Ubuntu 7.10 was replaced with CentOS. Ubuntu 7.10 is no longer on the machine)

location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 24, 2009
Hi. I am using the latest version of Ubuntu Linux. I've been using it for about a month. One day, as i booted up my computer, something didn't go as planed. It started to boot up, but it went to some screen that said:
"Gnu Grub version 1.97 beta 4
Minimal BASH-like editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device, file completions.
Sh:grub> (it wants me to type something here)"
How to i get rid of that screen. How to i get onto my Ubuntu Linux. HELP!

[SOLVED] Triple Boot XP/Fedora/Ubuntu facing Grub Error 17
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2012
Mine is a triple boot system having Ubuntu,Fedora and XP. I deleted the Ubuntu partition from XP Disk management. But I did not delete the Ubuntu from GRUB file. After booting the system it is showing me GRUB error 17. I need to recover both XP and fedora as i have all my data there. I presently dont have XP recovery CD. But I have REdHat linux rescue CD which is an old one. What to do to recover both Xp and Fedora and remove Ubuntu from PC and GRUB. How to modify grub only for this two OS.
Any help is appreciated.
Software RAID, Ubuntu, and Grub problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 9, 2006
Yesterday I attempted to install Ubuntu 6.06 server on my Dell Poweredge 2400. My hardware RAID controller is broken, so on the Ubuntu partitioning manager I created a software RAID-0 array. Everything installs fine until I get to the boot loaders. Neither GRUB nor LILO would install, so I carried on without a bootloader install. The machine rebooted after it had finished installed and eventually I got to the GRUB> prompt, from where I have no idea what to do. I had a look on the net and I've found out that it is a problem with software RAID and grub, they don't like each other apparently.
Can anyone suggest a way I can get GRUB onto this system, or an alternative?
DualBooting With Ubuntu Using Grub 2 And A Truecrypt Windows Installation
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 29, 2011
I've been trying to get a dual-boot system with a truecrypted Windows partition and grub 2 in combination to work successfully and to date, I haven't had much luck. I'm using the grub 2 version from Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS.
I understand from searching through Google that there is presently no easy way to chainload the Truecrypt boot loader from Grub 2 in a similiar way that was done with Grub 1. This is because the Grub 2 payload is much larger and actually overwrites some of the Truecrypt boot loader, preventing it from starting.
A workaround is to boot the Truecrypt recovery ISO from Grub 2. This has been reported to work and is well documented on the forum thread below:-
However, I haven't been able to get this to work. In particular, the section shown below for adding a custom item to the Grub 2 menu is where the problems start.

On my PC i have both Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed.
When Booting into GRUB it provides me with the two options:
Is there anyway of making Ubuntu the top choice (First choice)
It's annoying when i start up the computer and walk away and it boots into windows.
