Ubuntu with mySQL error connecting from XP
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 11, 2010
Hi, installed mySQL-server on the Ubuntu and configured it(i've made this lots of times). After that I installed mySQL-Admin and connected successfuly to the server. Tried some queries and worked fine. So, then I opened tcp 3306 for incoming and outgoing from anywhare. Went to my XP station and install mysql odbc driver, allowed tcp 3306 and tried to connect but I got an error 10061. So I decided to telnet my server with 3306 port and I got "connection failed". Any ideas why this is happening?

[How to] Multiboot USB from Linux ISOs/Windows Installer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 25, 2013
Hello! I just suscribed to this forum to post this, since I couldn't find this information over the forum (I hope it is in the right section).
What will I be able to do?
Basically what we want to achieve is to be able to boot almost any Linux ISO (with the traditional loopback method) as well as being able to boot a Windows 7/8 installation from a USB.
Summarizing the process, we will make 2 FAT32 partitions in a USB, get the Windows Installation in the first partition (through syslinux with Universal USB installer). Then install grub2 to the second partition and modify the grub.cfg file to boot Linux ISOs and chainload to the Windows installation
Pendrive of at least 8GB (Not sure if you can make this with an external hard drive, the process should be similar though)Working windows installationWorking linux installationLinux ISOsWindows 7/8 ISOUniversal USB Installer

Ubuntu 9.10 Error importing python modules $PYTHONPATH?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 4, 2009
I have been recently encountering problems when, trying to run *ANY* Python program. I get an import error and a warning to verify my PYTHONPATH.
This happened when I removed python-sphinx with apt-get, but I think it's not the reason.

Ubuntu server installer can't mount CDROM drive!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 23, 2008
I'm having trouble mounting my CD-ROM drive in Ubuntu Server. It's a CSA CDR-1300A drive, works just fine in Windows 98, but when loading Ubuntu Server, it always fails to mount. The CD can be read just fine, but the Linux kernel apparently doesn't detect it.

Running other Linux OS's on a Ubuntu/Windows dual boot?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 29, 2011
I am a very big n00b and am very poor when it comes to computer terminology and all but I am sick and tired of throwing good money at Microsoft so I decided finally to try Ubuntu as I've heard loads about it and am running a dual boot I use Ubuntu primarily but not entirely (mainly cause I'm not smart enough to figure out WINE and how to work PlayOnLinux yet.. but I'm slowly improving)
Anyways besides a quick "What's up all" I wanted to know, I've been reading about other Linux OS's now including lots of buzz about the new Linux Mint and Kubuntu I was wondering if there is a way to run one of them on top of the dual boot of Ubuntu and Windows. If its as easy as doing something in a terminal or even easier double clicking I could probably do that but I haven't learned any ingenuity as far as running things yet unless it's spelled out or made very easy... patience I'll get able to do all of that eventually.
[SOLVED] Ubuntu canít boot. Error: /bin/sh: canít access tty: job control turned off
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 30, 2013
Hi all, I have a brand new desktop pc without any OS and I wish to install Ubuntu.
But, as all nice things in life, I need to have some adventure before enjoying.
So, I used a Live CD I found in a Ubuntu guide (probably an old version of Ubuntu, not quite sure which) and I got the screen asking:
Start or install Ubuntu (which I selected)
but then I got the error message that I have pasted on the title:
/bin/sh: canít access tty: job control turned off
