Windows 7, Ubuntu 32 Bit, Ubuntu 64 Bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 8, 2013
Just got this refurbuished machine. 64 bit, 1 TB HD. Pre-loaded with Windows 7.
I installed 32 bit Ubuntu 12.04 using the recommended disk partioning, for a dual boot setup.
Then it *finally* dawns on me I just bought a 64 bit machine.
When I tried to install 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04, it did *not* offer to repartion the drive for me. Just "erase all" and "configure the darn thing yourself" more-or-less.
Well, I have *no* idea what's what with all that stuff.

Hey guys great job on the Ubuntu keep it up I was running Ubuntu 13.04 for awhile but decided to go back to 12.04 only the fact that I do my banking and personal home stuff and with the security 2017. Nothing personal but I still love the operating system everything works that I had just making sure I'm secured for a while.
Keep up the great work

Amazing. Still a great game after so many years, but great games never age. Pity it's such a fight to get it running, but at least on Linux with stuff like this, if there's a will, there's a way.
Anyway, I have managed to get this running mostly pretty well on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit thanks to some guidance around the net. Turns out you need to preload the 32 bit pulseaudio driver to get this to play with sound, but first you have to copy the proper file over to the correct folder.
You have to copy libpulsedsp.so from the 32 bit libpulsedsp package in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pulseaudio over to /usr/lib32. Then you can cd into the games folder, and run it with
. I managed to create a bash script that launches the game with these parameters, and all works pretty well. However...
Sound does work, but is quite crackly and often sounds out of synch sometimes. Sometimes it sounds like it's running too fast or too slow. Can any
Dual boot ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS 64 bit and Windows 8 on ASUS k55A laptop
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 24, 2013
After many changes to the boot config on windows 8, that include:
1. Disable secure boot (UFEI)
2. Disable fast start
3. Enable CSM so that I can install Ubuntu via DVD
Finally, the installation seemed to complete. But after reboot, I could not boot to Ubuntu. Depending on the boot order, first with Hard disk as the option, for windows I got the PXE error to the effect -- there is no media and to insert some media and retry. Then using DVD as the boot option, I could boot to Ubuntu and as per the suggestion, in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI, I tried to grub repair which seemed to fix the boot choices. I now have grub 1.99 with Ubuntu and windows listed as options (along with recovery, Windows-UFEI etc.). I see that, Ubuntu is booted as /dev/sr0. But, If I remove the Ubuntu DVD then then rebooting and choosing Ubuntu takes me to a blank light purple screen (default Ubuntu background) and nothing happens. It appears that I can't access the Ubuntu instantiation on the
trying to install java7 on Ubuntu 12.0.4 64 bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 17, 2012
Downloaded the jre7 *.tar.gz file, moved it to/usr/local so I could install there and have all users use it, then ran tar -zxvf to extract it, but ./configure, make, and make install tell me there is nothing to configure, make, or install
I also never get an opportunity to accept a license, even if I find and download a java6 .bin file.
What am I doing wrong?
Ubuntu 12.10 64 Bit Soundblaster XFi Sound Problems
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 2, 2012
I just installed a fresh 12.10 after a long break from Ubuntu. I see some great improvements but some old problems still remain.
Anyway, I am experiencing popping/cracking sounds from my speakers. I understand that the SoundBlaster X-Fi drivers are terrible on Linux.
Any idea how to fix this problem?
Ubuntu 12.10 & 13.04 64 bit Bricscad 13 and Draftsight install instructions that work
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 22, 2013
Bricscad 13 64 bit and draftsight 2d free works on Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 64 bit by directions below
Bricscad-v13.1.19on Ubuntu 12.10 x64 wubi install in terminal mode after su or root password. Cut and paste each command line and then enter. Repeat for each command until all have been executed below:
sudo dpkg--add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
This installs the ia32-libs and ia32-libs-multiarch needed. As I read, the wubi install of ubuntu 12.10 does not include the i386 and does not allow the single packages, you have to have all to get all dependencies as I understand.
I then installed gdebi installer rather than the default ubuntu software center package installer.
after that I right mouse clicked over the downloaded BricsCAD-V13.1.19-2-en_US-amd64.deb file and selected install with gdebi installer.
It installed complete with no dependency errors or any comments. Found the icon and added to sidebar. launched and it came up with no errors and did no
