Ubuntu Wine Install on Flash Drive?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 22, 2014
I recently installed Linux Ubuntu on my Acer C720 Chromebook and it runs really good. However since the internal SSD is only 16GB and I have Chromeos and Ubuntu installed on the SSD plus programs for Chromeos, I have very limited space on the internal left. I want to install some Windows based programs since I need them for college work and I was wondering if it would be possible to install Wine and Windows programs on a Flash Drive (32GB)?. Or would it be better to get an SD card and use the internal SD card slot to install programs onto?

I'm new to the community.
I mess around on linux & unix for work sometimes,
but I've always used windows for private use.
I've decided to give ubuntu a shot now though
I'm running into a problem when I try to install Wine.
(I need MS office)
When I try to install wine using apt-get, it is giving me the following error:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine: Depends: wine1.2
E: Broken packages
I've googled around, and found the following instructions on the WINEHQ website on how to install wine:
Ubuntu server wine install interrupted [closed]

I was installing wine onto a Ubuntu server however I alt tabbed to another window and I saw a pink screen flash by(assuming configuration screen).
I however got a black screen and didn't see anything anymore. I relogged and tried to install wine again but it : "Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)".
Which is I assume the install process still.
How do I get control back of the process or what should I do to be able to install wine again?
thanks in advance
Ubuntu wine vs Kubuntu wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 9, 2013
I though both versions are identical. But obviously there must be something different. I am running an application trough samba client. It is working on Ubuntu but not on Kubuntu.
Does anyone know what is the reason for that regarding on fact that wine versions are identical. I am running the application trough command "env WINEPREFIX="/home/codingeek/.wine" wine Z:\\var\\tmp\\kdecache-codingeek\\krun\\3331.0.PTal.exe".
Best regards, Janez
Any difference between Ubuntu Minimal install vs. Arch Linux install?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 2, 2010
Hello. I'm fairly new to the Linux world. I'm looking into building a lightweight system with either dwm or Openbox as my WM. I've tried using Arch to build a system, but I'm wondering if there are any differences using Ubuntu's minimal install cd and building an Openbox system.
ubuntu minimal install vs arch

1.I was wondering WHY arch is so fast?
2.Can the minimal install + Xorg + Some other useful stuff be as fast as arch?
3.If yes please tell me the light weight equivalents to what Iam using right now.
4.I ONLY have a wireless connection. Is it likely to be a problem? (In jaunty it works out-of-the-box)
