Ubuntu Wine How To Fix Error : "Cannot focus disabled or invisible window."
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 25, 2015
I am using Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 LTS, Wine is 1.6.2. I installed Microsoft Free Calculators MoffFreeCalc & MoffCalc2 several days ago. Until yesterday, the programs ran error free. However, yesterday, I began receiving the error "Cannot focus disable or invisible window", and when I click "OK", the MoffSoft FreeCalc or MofffCalc2 window opens up, but they are blank except for the header "X - O and Program Name, and the File/View toolbar. The Window panes are there as well, but they are blank.
I do not know what I did, if anything, to cause this to happen. I have searched for a way to fox this, but have yet to find a workable solution for my problem. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Easiest way to get Internet Explorer on Linux
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 16, 2011
I'm trying to convert my GF's brother to Linux, but he requires IE for a school website to work.
I've tried ies4linux, which doesn't work because it is abandonware as I later learned.
I found this and ran
sh winetricks ie6
Which seemed to install IE, but I can't find how to run it anywhere.
can opera version 9.10 emulate internet explorer
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 3, 2007
Hello I havent used opera in a while but I remember that in previous releases I could use an option to emulate internet explorer and netscape while using Opera. I dont readily see this in the new version. Can it still do this?
Does anyone know a web browser that can emulate Internet Explorer? I need this because I have to access a webpage that hangs whenever I want to access it with firefox or opera.
Show a message if the browser is not internet explorer 9 or greater
location: linuxexchange.com - date: September 11, 2013
I would like to show my users a bar that looks like this, if:
Browser is not IE; or
Browser is IE but is version 8 or earlier
(Note that the screenshot is just for illustration - IE 9 is supported for my site.)
I found this nice jQuery plugin, but I don't want to use popups.
The site where I will implement this is a Sharepoint 2013 site, so I will use a content editor webpart to include the HTML content you provide and the bar should be at the top of everything else.
Please include CSS if needed to make it look as the screenshot?

Fine tuning performance of Ubuntu (Wine?) tips, tricks and info
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 28, 2012
Hi there, guys and girls,
I have just upgraded 10.04 to 12.04 on my MacMini 2.1. The spec are: 4gb ram, c2d cpu, ssd disk and intel GMA945 gfx. And i play D2 on it via PlayOnLinux.
The spec are not the super latest and fastest. But it should be quite ok for 12.04 imho right? I already had Lion, Win8 and some 11.xx Ubuntu and i saw that Win8 was kinda laggy so i downgraded the whole setup to: Snow Leopard, XP and 10.04. But that would not mean that Ubuntu is even laggy as Win7 right? Basically the look and feel and the overall working seems quite ok to me. This is just Wine that is kinda more laggy with 12.04 then with 10.04. I can even startup an XP virtual machine in VirtualBox and start D2 there and play it wothout any lag. So its not like theres not enough resources.
I have already learned that its not always best idea to run the latest and greatest software versions. Sometimes the hardware and the software are not quite compatible anymore. And you should better run somewha
How does UPS WorldShip know if Internet Explorer launched?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 15, 2013
We use Aurora as a browser, but UPS WorldShip stubbornly uses Internet Explorer. So I created an executable named iexplore.exe and replaced the real iexplore.exe with my "fake". My "fake" iexplore.exe just launches Aurora. So I fire up WorldShip, and click UPS Home Page (or something like that) and it launches Aurora. But then WorldShip hangs, saying Connecting... Please Wait as though nothing launched.
My question is: How does IE communicate with WorldShip to let it know that IE has launched?
How can I implement this in my own program (preferably in C)?
IE is started with the -Embedding option. Anyone know what that does?
Table and text appear too low down in the page when viewing in Internet Explorer
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 19, 2013
I have one panel on the left side and have just added a table of images to the right beside it. In Mozilla the page looks fine, but in Explorer the table (and text above and below the table) start beneath the level of the left hand panel. Any suggestions on how to keep the main page contents at the right level?

Ubuntu, WINE and EZNEC
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 5, 2015
I wanted to install and run EZNEC ver. 5.0 or 6.0 (antenna modelling software for WINDOWS) on a 64-bit Ubuntu ver. 15.04 computer.
After some trial and error, I found that WINE version 1.7 allowed installation and operation of both. For some reason, an earlier test
using WINE ver. 1.6 was unsuccessful. Both initial installation and subsequent upgrade from EZNEC ver. 5.0 to 6.0 were successful with
WINE ver. 1.7. Two computers were tested; both loaded and ran the software.
