How do I use Wine to run Internet Explorer?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 5, 2008
Hello, I'm having problems to run a browser MMO, as the Firefox keeps closing when I attempt to load it. I than tried installing Opera, downgrading the Firefox version, and everything possible. Now I've decided to try a Windows browser (the MMO - RuneScape - is designed for Windows, but may work on other operating systems), so I've installed Internet Explorer (newest version), and also Wine to run it. But I'm new at Linux and I don't know how to run a .exe program with it, so if anyone could help me, I'd be pleased =).
People always tell me to run them using codes on certain places, but they only get me even more lost, so please be specific when telling me how to execute them. Oh, I've only downloaded them and done nothing else.
Wine program: "wine-1.1.7.tar.bz2.sign"
Explorer program: "IE7-WindowsXP-x86-ptb.exe"
And sorry if it's on the wrong forum =/

Has anybody installed ie6 on wine in Fedora?
If so can you share what additional steps required. For me the installation doesn't progress once it the progress bar reaches installing 72%.
Or could you share your ~/.wine directory.
any help will be appreciated

iSky installs iTunes, Internet Explorer and Skype on Ubuntu 9.04

iTUNES, INTERNET EXPLORER and SKYPE INSTALL EASILY AND WORK PERFECTLY
I'd like to announce a script I wrote called iSky. It is an interactive terminal-based installer for Skype, iTunes and Internet Explorer. It is designed for users with minimal expertise in Linux and Wine. iSky is currently for (K)Ubuntu 9.04, but other Ubuntu versions and then Distros will hopefully follow.
Put simply: By selecting "Install Dependencies", iSky automatically adds the WineHQ repos to the user's sources list.
Then, iSky installs the latest versions of wine and cabextract.
Users can then choose to install Skype, iTunes, or Internet Explorer.
The Skype option is merely a useful script which fetches and installs the package from the website, and saves the user from having to use nasty non-free repos, many of which hold out of date versions anyway.
The iTunes option fetches and installs iTunes 8.0 (under Wine). I have tested this, and it works like a charm. N.B: I do no
Internet explorer 8 and Wine

I need to run IE from Ubuntu 9.1. I received a lot of help in another thread. I'm, apparently, missing a step somewhere.
I loaded Wine from the Software Center. It appeared to load correctly. I downloaded the IE8 from the link given by Hankinator. When I right-click the link and choose "open with Wine Windows Program Loader", I receive the response:
Unable to find a volume for program extraction. Please verify that you have proper permissions.
What am I missing?

wine and Internet explorer

using ies4linux-2.0 I've managed to install internet explorer, I can even use it.
The problem is I need it to install a program and the application is complaining that it can't find internet explorer or flash.
I figure that some configuration or shortcut is missing that tells wine where to find IE.
