"What's Mac OS X? Is it like Internet Explorer?"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 14, 2008
I'm gob smacked. A couple of days ago I was asked this most bizarre question. It led me to realize that a lot of people still have no concept of what an Operating System is.
How can we expect people to move to Linux, when they don't understand what Linux is?

winepulse in ubuntu wine ppa
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 18, 2012
Wine has rejected the winepulse patches for unrelated reasons to the patches themselves. As such the pulseaudio support isn't handled by wine, As such I plan on supporting it in this thread.
Quick Q&A (might be updated later):
Q: What versions of wine are supported?
A: At the moment I only do plan to do support new releases of wine, from 1.5.2 onward. However the patches themselves can be backported to 1.4 if there's demand for it.
Q: I want to know if a sound related bug is caused by winepulse or not.
A: Go to winecfg, in the tab 'libraries', enter 'winepulse.drv' in the box and click on add, click yes on the warning. Select winepulse.drv and change load order to 'disabled'. Now try to trigger your bug again, if it was a winepulse bug it shouldn't trigger any more. To undo the change: select 'winepulse.drv' and click 'delete'.
A2 (easier and preferred): From 1.5.3 onward, launch your program with WINENOPULSE=1 wine program.exe to temporarily disable winepul
Internet Explorer problems..

I asked this before and was told to switch to Firefox.. But thats not possible... I have a high speed connection at work and a doggy dial up at home...
At work I have a WinXP machine on a network, etc.. I have a 512mb USBKey and I have been using to transfer file between my work machine and my laptop which is where I have a Feather Linux setup. My laptop is a Toshiba 2545CDS, AMDK6 with only 32mb of Ram... Feather linux is installed and running great...
I am going to get the dpkg.tar.bz2 files from feather linux. I put them on my USBKey and they save no problem... I eject my key and put it on the laptop. I mount it like I normally do (mount /mnt/usbkey)....
I cp the files to the correct directory. I then tar -jxvf dpkg.tar.bz2 and get data integrity errors... I've heard that IE does not do well with Linux files... Does anyone know what is going on and what I can do to fix it???
Survey Site requires Windows and Internet Explorer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 27, 2009
SO, I was doing a survey on a site and I got to a certain point and got an error message below...your mission, if you choose to accept, is to write a non-fanboy and truthful email for me to send to the site operator in response to WHY they require me to pay a Microsoft tax before I can use their site.
Thanks...it should be fun!

Remote Desktop in Ubuntu over internet with Linksys routers. Setup help?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 18, 2007
I need serious help setting up Remote Desktop, as it is not as easy as it was described to me. I'm an avid Mac user and I dabble in Linux (Ubuntu Distro) from time to time. I'm trying to connect to a computer thats about 50 miles away over the internet. My computer is running OSX, I also have a computer running XP Pro and Ubuntu Edgy. The computer that I want to connect to is running Ubuntu Edgy only.
What I know: I have to use two routers (one on each end) and port forward from port 23.
What I don't know:
1. How do I do this in a Linksys router? (both are WRT54G models)
2. How do I know what address to connect to?
3. Any other doo-dads that I may need and have not covered!
HELP! I'm going crazy!
