Ubuntu wine vs Kubuntu wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 9, 2013
I though both versions are identical. But obviously there must be something different. I am running an application trough samba client. It is working on Ubuntu but not on Kubuntu.
Does anyone know what is the reason for that regarding on fact that wine versions are identical. I am running the application trough command "env WINEPREFIX="/home/codingeek/.wine" wine Z:\\var\\tmp\\kdecache-codingeek\\krun\\3331.0.PTal.exe".

World of Warcraft 3.3.3 Crash Issues Ubuntu/Wine/ATI Graphics
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 20, 2010
I have been trying like crazy to get World of Warcraft running on my somewhat antiquated laptop, a Dell Inspiron 8600 with an onboard ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 GPU. This laptop used to run Windows, but after a series of unfortunate events it now runs Ubuntu. World of Warcraft ran fine under Windows. I've loaded the latest version of the OS, updated all its libraries, loaded and updated the Wine emulator, and Warcraft is downloaded, installed and patched.
I am able to log in to the game, select a server & character and load the game world. However, as soon as the world loads, a critical error occurs and the game crashes. I've tried a variety of solutions, including an old addon (which I have since removed) and editing the Wine registry, but nothing so far has worked.
Can anybody help or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

winepulse in ubuntu wine ppa
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 18, 2012
Wine has rejected the winepulse patches for unrelated reasons to the patches themselves. As such the pulseaudio support isn't handled by wine, As such I plan on supporting it in this thread.
Quick Q&A (might be updated later):
Q: What versions of wine are supported?
A: At the moment I only do plan to do support new releases of wine, from 1.5.2 onward. However the patches themselves can be backported to 1.4 if there's demand for it.
Q: I want to know if a sound related bug is caused by winepulse or not.
A: Go to winecfg, in the tab 'libraries', enter 'winepulse.drv' in the box and click on add, click yes on the warning. Select winepulse.drv and change load order to 'disabled'. Now try to trigger your bug again, if it was a winepulse bug it shouldn't trigger any more. To undo the change: select 'winepulse.drv' and click 'delete'.
A2 (easier and preferred): From 1.5.3 onward, launch your program with WINENOPULSE=1 wine program.exe to temporarily disable winepul

Ubuntu Software Package Version Confusion
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 23, 2013
im a little bit confused about a software package i have installed. I need the newest possible version of usb-creator-gtk out of the repositories. My installed version is 2.23. Ubuntu version is 12.04 Precise Pangolin. And this site
states that my ubuntu version should have the usb-creator-gtk package version be 2.38.2 installed. I want to install this version. How do i do that?
I checked my /etc/apt/source.list and it seems ok. Backports are enable too. did apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. Version remains the old 2.23...
Am i missing something? I figured out my installed version with usb-creator-gtk --version.
Thank you in advance.
Developing Win32 QT/MySQL Applications with Ubuntu, Wine, and MinGW
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 15, 2009
Hey Obento lovers!
I thought this might be fun for other OSS developers, or for folks who like to play with cross compiling.
I've found a somewhat kinky way of porting my simple QT4/MySQL program to Win32, and I'm sharing my method with you all.
There's quite a lot of work to do in the Terminal. If you aren't familiar with the terminal, you could have some trouble with a few steps. I'd suggest reading a primer on the Linux CLI system, unless you're feeling brave.
Here's what you'll need:
WineUnzip programMinGWMinGW UtilsWindows version of MySQL (with development libraries)Windows version of CMakeWindows source for QT
A quick google should locate these for you, then run the installers using Wine as you would with any windows app.
If you don't need MySQL support in your program(s), just grab the binary version from Trolltech. Keep in mind that it only comes with SQLite by default, though.
Ensure Wine works. The easiest way to do that is to run the program 'regedit'. If i
How to get Ubuntu/Wine to detect PS3 controller through USB?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 8, 2012
I need some help in order to configure my PS3 controller in Ubuntu 12.04 and use it for playing games I've installed in Wine 1.4.
I don't have bluetooth on my computer so I am trying to get it to work through USB connection only. What I have been doing is the following:
sudo apt-get install libusb-dev libusb-0.1-4
and then downloading, compiling and trying to run sixpair with:
sixpair then complains about missing bluetooth or something similar and then I am stuck. In all of the tutorials I've found they are talking about blutooth pairing which is not what I am trying to do. I believe that sixpair is used for blutooth pairing only but I might be wrong.
I've also stumbled across a tool named QtSixA which I understand is used for pairing of the PS3 and the computer. It detects my PS3 controller and displays it in it's GUI, but I lack knowledge of what to do next.
This is as far as I have come, I would really appreciate any pointers as to what to do next.

Get the best from Evernote on Ubuntu (Wine?)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 7, 2013
Evernote has become an important tool for my work, but i've very limited by the lack of a good Linux client (i'm on 12.04).
I've tried the two availables and them both have major problems: Everpad (https://github.com/nvbn/everpad) is for a very basic user, because tags are managed very poorly, the editor is limited and it slows the launcher down; NixNote (http://nevernote.sourceforge.net/) is better but is still limited and bugged in tag usage, sometimes has weird problems with Evernote formatting and it often crashes or freeze.
The official Evernote web interface is simply too slow and i hate it.
So, i'm stuck with the Windows Evernote Client (188.8.131.5284) under Wine (1.5.5), installed using PlayOnLinux because without it i wasn't able (or Evernote didn't sync).
Anyway, it's far from perfect...
A couple of problems:
- Tray icon disappear and works weird
- Special keys get locked on (for Wine i'm keeping the Alt button pressed but i'm not...)
- Notes scrolling is too fas
