Ubuntu, XAMPP Server, PHP and sendmail issues
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 7, 2011
Please forgive my ignorance. I checked the forums and was overwhelmed by sendmail info.
My basic issue is this. I use Ubuntu 10.4 (works GREAT!), setup an XAMPP server, and I want to test a web email form on the XAMPP server.
I use Evolution email program with my Windstream email account but this message never gets there.
They say "Fools go where angels fear to tread" and I am just crazy enough to play with this. I just cannot get the information to my SMTP email. I figure that I cannot hurt anything unless I get crazy editing config files (which I am not going to do
Ubuntu Xampp PHP File Permissions with NTFS Hdd's as additional media storage
location: linuxexchange.com - date: December 9, 2011
I have 4 drives in my (yes, physically in the box, sata connected) Ubuntu 10.10 system with xampp installed at the /opt/lampp/ dir on the OS drive. The OS drive (ssd, lets call it drive1 for sanity) has the correct file permissions to allow for PHP (user www-data) to read/write to any of my htdocs and vhosts folder(s).
My problem comes with I try to move a file that exists on one of the other 3 drives. Each of my other drives are ntfs (1tb, 1.5tb and 2.0tb) and mounted with fstab. When I view the file permissions with the gui (nautilus) it says that everything is root. So I tried chown, chmod, etc. I found out that you can't change the permissions of ntfs with those commands. So I went to my fstab config, however I can't get those permissions set to allow for PHP to copy/rename/move a file within even one of the drives.
I updated to using the UUID's today, the drives are also shared on my local network and that still works just fine.
I changed to the ntfs-3g driver after installing,
Ubuntu XAMPP errorlog file cleaning
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have XAMPP installed on it. From couple of days, Ubuntu sending errors like you have some XX MB left on disk. When I examine I find the error_log file in XAMPP installation contains 1 GB of my disk. So, I like to ask whether it is safe to delete logs in that file, or it will harm to my XAMPP installation. And if it will harm for installation, how should I remove those logs with safe way?
“PHP program not installed” message while installing ZF2 on ubuntu Xampp
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 22, 2013
I am trying to install ZF2 on ubuntu Xampp. I am following :-
I have downloaded the zip file. But when I run the command
php composer.phar self-update
I get a message :-
"The program 'php' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install php5-cli"
If we are trying to install within xampp then why do we need to install php separately, shouldn't xampp handle this?
Problem with running xampp on Ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 8, 2012
I wanted to run run WordPress in my localhost on Ubuntu 11.10 x64 using xampp, and every time I try to use it I get this error:
error establishing a database connection
Here what I did so far,
I downloaded xampp-linux-1.7.7.tar.gz
extract xampp and install it
$ sudo tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.1.tar.gz -C /opt
Then launch xampp and stop it via Terminal
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp stop
Then I headed to Worpress file and renamed file wp-config-sample.php to be wp-config.php
Then editing the file itself, wp-config.php
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wordpress’); (I named my database wordpress)
/** MySQL database username */ (my username)
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘root’); (as default)
/** MySQL database password */
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ”); (added my password)
/** MySQL hostname */ (as default)
define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); (as default)
After that I created a database named wordpress on phpmyadmin.

LXer: Setup XAMPP Web Development Server On CentOS 6.4 – Fedora 18 – Ubuntu 13.04

XAMPP is free and open-source web development bundle, it includes Apache HTTP web server, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Python. OpenSSL, and many more web modules. XAMPP software bundle “distribution” easily provides all these web modules with a few commands. So, don’t bother installing Apache, MySQL, PHP …etc one by one.
