Wine Gold rated chess game fails to load in 12.04 but does in 9.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 19, 2013
I installed a Windows XP compatible package called Majestic Chess using Wine.
When I click the chess game's icon it starts up the CD drive with the Chess Program CD as is required to run the game but then after the CD whizzes around for about 20 seconds, nothing happens.
I am a newbie and running Ubuntu 12.04. I want to try to get this to work as an Anonymous User succeeded in running this chess game out of the box on Ubunto 9.10, Wine 1.1.39 per link below:
The CD is required to be in the CD drive and a licence key needs to be typed in to the application on the screen in order to use it in Windows and I am guessing that I need to do something to Ubuntu/Wine to take this into account.
Majestic Chess is a cool game for my kids which is highly rated by everyone I know who has used it. I dont have access to XP and really want to use it in Ubuntu using Wine.
Please could forum members offer some advice.
Military History Commander Europe at War Gold (workshop thread)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 24, 2009
Slitherine's enhanced version of their "Commander - Europe at War" from 2007. Gold was initially released last Friday, on March 20th, in version 1.12 which is supposed to be compatible with the last version of the original CEAW game (1.07 I think.)
I pre-ordered the game, got it today and am currently trying to get it to work. Have had some success but not done yet, and figured I'd post up a bit here so that if anyone else is doing the same we might work together. I've also submitted the game on Wine's AppDB, but additional exposure can't hurt.
So, my progress, using wine 1.1.17 under a well-updated Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid:
1. Installation. Works fine, once you start it through the Autorun.exe file on the disc. Trying to start with the ceaw_gold_setup.exe file didn't work for me.
2. Game-starting scripts. MHCEAW Gold doesn't have a single .exe in its directory to just run to start the game. The installation has however placed two links on the desktop: one .lnk, and
Problems with Ulteo Virtual Desktop
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 10, 2012
Sorry, if this thread is not at the right place in the forum.
I have the following problem.
I installed Ulteo Virtual Desktops in a Vmware environment and I’m able to reach the admin area in the virtual desktop via Firefox Browser to create new users and to add new applications. So far no problems, but if I try to log in with a normal user, the application programs are shown grey and can’t be opened and Ulteo logs out automatically after a short period of time (less than half a minute).
How can I solve that problem?
Thanks in advance for good solution hints.

Looks nothing like the originals, hope it is good either way since I haven't played one myself before.
Alien Arena 2006 Gold Edition for Linux won't work... can't find libgtk1.2.so.0
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 29, 2011
Back in 2007 I got a cover CD off a Linux mag, which included a game called Alien Arena 2006 Gold Edition for Linux. It was a nice game (1st person shoot-'em-up like Quake and Doom) and I'd like to play it again. Unfortunately I lost the CD.
Alien Arena is in Synaptic. But when I install it, I can't get it to work. The mouse pointer will not work in the game menu window, arrow keys don't work... I get some music, but that's about it. I figure maybe it won't work because the new, improved Alien Arena won't play nice with my computer (Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.70 GHz, the very same computer I used in 2007, but now with added RAM - 1GB instead of 256MB) so I ooked for the 2006 gold edition I knew and loved before.
A little googling turned up the original game - alienarena-2006ge-x86.run. But when I try to run it, I get a little window saying:

Majesty Gold Edition & Linux Game Publishing
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 14, 2006
I installed Majesty Gold Edition. Details of the game here . The game I got as Majesty-linux.iso & mounted it using mount loop command.
sudo mount -o loop /home/shirish/majesty-linux /home/shirish/cd
I had the CD but just wanted to use the image hence this way, it's also a tad faster for installs & stuff. Anyway.
Looking into the .iso saw tht there is a setup.sh file . So ran the setup.sh with
so it installed the game as well as LGP update files at :-
now can run the game which is at ver. 1.4.0 . Tried updating it through LGP & while it says it did update don't see this on the screen while the majestyupdate at LGP_Update

X2 the threat has gone gold, there's even a demo out.
I tried the demo and it looks good, only problem is that my mouse is not showing up
and that almost all the key I press are changing my targets.....a bit weird...but the game looks really big that's a good thing. Benchmark is also not working....

I was browsing winehq.com, and found a list of Windows applications compatible with Ubuntu and Wine. The list was difficult to read, so I've reformatted the list and posted it here.
To find out how to install any of the following applications, you will need to search the following sites for instructions:

Installing Marble Blast Gold in 10.10 64bit
- date: October 20, 2010
Maybe some of you have never heard of Marble Blast. If not, I strongly encourage you to google it and watch a video. Its quite addictive.
Anyhow, I'm, running 10.10 64bit, and Marble Blast Gold simply wont install, where as when i've installed 32bit to the same computer, it installs.
Heres the terminal output when I run the .sh.bin install:
