Xubuntu 13.04 Logs Out Randomly with Enter Key
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 1, 2013
Xubuntu 13.04 - Samsung RV510
4Gs - 512 SSD - Dual Boot Win 7
Xubuntu tends to randomly log me out at random times. It only happens, however, when I press the enter key at any time. I notice it more when I am working on a terminal, but it happens anywhere. All jobs are still running, however, because I was running a gparted resize when it happened last, but the resize was still going after logout and login.
ubuntu randomly logs out after upgrading to 13.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 18, 2013
I recently upgraded to 13.04 and since then my desktop, seemingly randomly, logs me off and goes back to the login screen.
This goes very fast. There is no message or warning, no freeze (or it should be for a tiny fraction of a second).
After logging in all programs are closed.
It seems random. Sometimes after 5 minutes with only firefox running. Sometimes after hours with plenty of programs running. Sometimes after being away and simply moving the mouse.
I problably could do a clean install, but I would rather know what is happening and how I can fix this, but I have no idea where to begin to debug this.
Anybody any ideas how I could find the cause?
Ubuntu 11.10 logs out spontaneously X server problem?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 15, 2011
after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 sometimes it happens a spontaneous log out.
Unfortunately I'm not an expert but reading I found out it might depend on the X server... looking at the file /var/log/Xorg.1.log I found out this:
Fatal server error:
[ 60.640] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
in Xorgo.0.org I don't see anything wrong, but I don't know what to look
for so there might be some issue that I don't know.
I really need a stable system for my work,
can some of you guys please help me?
Thanks a lot in advance,

Ubuntu logs out after a few seconds of opening XBMC
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 9, 2014
Since upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 32bit, after a few seconds of opening XBMC, it freezes briefly and then sends me back to the OS logon screen. If I log back in without rebooting, it will do the same thing no matter what I'm doing, regardless of opening XBMC. Obviously I've tried uninstalling/re-installing umpteen times. I found similar articles about being logged off but none of them had to do with XBMC. I tried their resolution steps anyway, but without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
x11vnc server logs out to login screen after 1 minute
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 3, 2010
I have x11vnc server set up on my desktop PC. I can boot the computer and connect at the login screen if I want to. I can login to my computer as usual. But after about 1 minute of logging in, the computer logs off as if pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and returns me to the login screen. This cycle repeats when I login and I have to kill the x11vnc process or remove the command from /etc/gdm/Init/Default.
Have tried so many things now but the end result is the same.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 fully updated and x11vnc 9.10-1 from the default repos.
I am using the following command in the /etc/gdm/Init/Default file:
/usr/bin/x11vnc -rfbauth ~/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -display :0 -forever -bg
I don't think it matters now whether I add KillInitClients=false into /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom or /etc/gdm/gdm.conf because of the x11vnc version I have. The manual says its not really needed. But I have tried this too with no better luck.
The computer will still log me out after about a minute of
Ubuntu logs out each time I use Emacs (X11)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 3, 2011
I recently clean installed Ubuntu 10.10 and copied over my last home directory from 11.04, after having upgraded from 10.10. Maybe something went wrong in this transition which is making this happen.
Basically, I have a macbook pro with Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit and have the latest nvidia driver. I'm sshing using -X and -A. I try "emacs &" and Ubuntu logs me out immediately. Occasionally, it will simply log me out on startup although I haven't seen this happen in the last few logins.
I also just tried running kdiff3. It starts to load the window and it does the same as emacs: it logs me out of Ubuntu.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

SSH to debian server instantly logs out
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 4, 2009
I'm trying to help someone with their Debian server.
They have Plesk. I made myself an user with Plesk and enabled SSH access.
I can log on ... but only for one second. I see the MOTD, I see a Debian disclaimer, then I'm logged out again. "Connection closed".
The only thing I could think to try is to change the shell settings, Plesk has a dropdown list of bash, csh, tcsh and so on next to the "allow ssh using:" option. But none of them works.
Any ideas gratefully received.
[SOLVED] Restart network service logs out users
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 30, 2015
I didn't have this happen until recently. Whenever I run a service network restart on my CentOS 6.6 hosts, my LDAP users get logged out. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? Kind of inconvenient for making changes and then losing all open windows. Thanks all.
