Installing Microsoft Office 2007 in Ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04 using Wine 1.1.12 to 16

UPDATED POST: (August 18, 2009)
Since the day of the release of Wine version 1.1.24 the regression issue was resolved and probably future versions (1.1.24+) will do the same.
The guide is just a summary of all the online guides that I have tried and to be honest many of those guides gave me so many headaches for the simple reason, "I'm a newbie to UBUNTU". So I've decided to join in this forum last May 2009 and made a simple guide that's especially made for newbies like me.
Thanks to all the online guides that helped me formulate this simple guide all the credits must be given to all of you..
HERE ARE THE STEPS:
A. WINE CHECK/VERSION CHECK-to check if you have installed wine already or check the version of your wine
Click Application>Accessories>Terminal On the Terminal window type ‘wine --version’ Note:
If you have not installed wine yet you will receive this message The program 'wine' is currently not installed. You can install it by t
MIcrosoft Office 2003 V StarOffice 8 V OpenOffice 2.0.2

I would like to get everyone's opinions on this if I may.......
I own Microsoft Office 2003, and have downloaded StarOffice 8 and OpenOffice 2.0.2
So I have the latest versions of each (to make it fair)
My own personal opinion is that MS Office 2003 is the best. This is simply due to the fact that .doc and .xls are pretty much insustry standard document formats, and that if you have to send a file to someone, or share a file with others (a group of people passing around the same file after editing it for example), its pretty much a given that they want it sent to them in .doc or .xls format. Although StarOffice/OpenOffice "officially" support these formats, the tests that I have performed on opening my own .doc and .xls files with them required me to fix a LOT of little errors, which is just not practical to do all the time.
However, for personal letter writing/essays/anything that doesnt require you to use the microsoft document formats, then StarOffice and OpenOffice a
Why Doesn't Mac Microsoft office work on ubuntu?

Both OSX and Ubuntu are *NIX systems. Normally (in my limited experience) if a program works on one *NIX system, then it can be made to work on ubuntu.
Is Microsoft making it difficult on purpose?

Microsoft Office 2007 (Wine) error Ubuntu 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 10, 2013
I'm having some trouble with my office programs. I installed M$ office with WINE about a month ago (the open-source alternatives don't work well enough for me). It worked fine for a while, but recently started crashing. First, it was powerpoint (which I rarely use), but not Excel crashes too. The program just darkens after it opens, then crashes. The error report is below. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
