location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 3, 2008
I heard the new Fedora 9 project would allow users to open .exe files, .dmg files, and .pkg files. Is this true or is it a myth? Why can't it be done if not true? PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!
Run Windows applications on top of Linux desktop with Seamless Mode in VirtualBox
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 14, 2009
Hello,
I've written a short tutorial explaining how to run Windows applications on top of Linux desktop by using the Seamless Mode in VirtualBox.
It's nothing major, nothing critical, but it's a cool, pleasing visual hack, so you might want to take a look at it if you lke style combined with virtualization.

Linux and Windows Applications
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 2, 2008
Hello Linux/Unix Community,
I am newb to this site and let me say hello and God Bless. I am new to Linux/Unix and am feedUP extremely with Microsoft and Windows. Here are some of my concerns an issues that I have and hope you all can help me get them answered so I can make my integration over to Linux as smooth as possible. Here they are:
1.) What is the best Linux version out, meaning name and version and anything else I may need to search and buy it. Money is not a matter here I just want the best. If anyone has a copy that they would like to sell and think it is the best and great to get to learn Linux than let me know cost and edition and I will be happy to purchase and pay by Paypal if you wish.
2.) I assume that it is possible to dual boot a Windows OS and also a Linux OS and choose which OS I want to boot from on bootup of system?
3.) What are compatibility issues like for PCs. Will I have an extremely hard time finding drivers and the sorts for my hardware?
Fake windows.h in Linux for compiling windows applications to work on Linux?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 25, 2008
Maybe there could be a "fake" windows.h, which would have functions with exactly same names than original windows.h
but the functions' content would be different, like instead of windows' window manager the functions would call X11/Gnome/KDE?
And a fake directX library, which could contain all DX functions but the functions would actually call openGL functions?
Maybe we could compile windows games to work under linux that way?
Any OpenSource Citrixlike server programs? (Need to serve Windows applications)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 10, 2005
I work at a small tech outfit and its all windows this, windows that; even though all the people here dislike M$ products, its all we sell for OS's (with the ocasional NetWare on a server, but not much). I am always trying to suggest linux/floss but no one is too interested. Someday I will rule this company!
I digress.
One of our clients wants a Citrix server to be able to access data from anywhere, including airport kiosks and coffee shoppes, but he doesn't want to pay the price that we quoted. He wants a Fortune 500 solution for bargain basement prices.
I suggested Linux!
No one here seems to care. But if I have a solid case for it they might change their tune. We would need a solution that would allow this company to access data and applications via a webbrowser, basically a remote desktop of windows OS and the company's apps, but running on a linux server. Print, copy/paste, and audio would be needed capabilities.
is this near possible? Or would we just end u

Running windows applications in linux mint
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 23, 2014
Hello forum, my first post. I have never used wine or any virtual os. Looking for recommendations on a good tutorial and advice.
I would like to kick windows for good. A few programs have held me back such as H & R Block tax software. I have friends and colleagues who have to have quickbooks...and such.
Have played around with linux dual boots since RH 7.2. and used mandrake, CENTos, ubuntu, and now I think linux mint will be home.
Will wine be functional and stable enough for these simple programs (not like I want to run any FEA engines and the like). Any advice would be appreciated.
please wait...
