"The session has been locked by" comes up
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 9, 2013
I just upgraded my kubuntu 12.04 system today which is kde 4.10. My login manager is kdm. Now I always get a password prompt to unlock my desktop when kde goes into screen saver mode. I didn't have the issue until today's upgrade. Under System Settings -> Display I have Screen Locker set to start automatically after 2 minutes, require password is unchecked and screen locker type is set to screensaver which is set to blank. What am I missing?
[SOLVED] Continue process after SSH session has closed

Hey everyone,
I really should know the answer to this one, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it.
I have this program that I need to run on an Ubuntu server where I work. Its doing some serious computational work - and sometimes takes up to two or three days to complete. Whenever I execute the program from ssh, everything runs fine, but when I close my session, the server stops the process. Is there a way to force the server to continue running the job even after I close the ssh session?
Also, is there a way to have the computer notify me when the job is finished?
Right now I am doing this:
Code:
[email protected] $ biglongprogram && echo "Your Job has Finished" > finished.txt
Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds!! error

For some reason i manually installed gtk+-2.10.14!
After the next restart it is showing the error as shown in the photos below.
when i googled i saw to remove .ICEauthority in the home directory... i did! No beans!
Any ideas!
Edit1: I'm now running on a live cd! Better to tell to do from a live cd, rather than doing restart and going to terminal!
I tried failsafe GNOME also .... no use
Edit2: These is present in the .xsession-errors:

Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.

Can I disable "Your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted."
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 27, 2011
Every time Firefox updates, it gives me this message telling me to restart, and this message won't go away, no matter how many times I dismiss it. For the moment, I'm just disabling the Firefox repository so it won't happen anymore, but is there any way to disable this obnoxious message? It's extremely distracting when I'm trying to do work through the browser and can't restart yet.
"Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds" after upgrade to 9.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 27, 2009
Hi,
I had a fairly standard 8.10 installation on an acer Aspire 8930 laptop.
After upgrade I consistently get the following error:
Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem.
Logging in failsafe GNOME does *not* work either.
Content of ~/.xsessions-errors file is:
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US.
Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.

How to investigate whether your passphrase has been cracked
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 28, 2012
Is there a webpage you can go to where you can check if your password is in a crackers dictionary or has had the hash etc cracked? I would like to be able to do this without actually transmitting the password to the website, where it might be collected and added to a dictionary!
The sort of technology I am thinking of would be something like the godaddy domain registration page, where, as you type in a domain name, it starts informing you of whether the name is available before you even hit the enter key.

LXer: Introducing Ulteo: your virtual Linux desktop

Published at LXer:
It has been two years since Linux Format magazine last reported on Ulteo. Back then, we all thought it was going to be a standard new Linux distribution created by Gaël Duval, the founder of Mandrake Linux. If you take a look at Ulteo.com today, you won't find any mention of Linux on the home page. Not only that, but everything about the Ulteo site is slightly confusing. It's very difficult to understand what Ulteo is and what it might do, thanks to some rather vague statements and the use of some very stylised 'lifestyle' illustrations. But Ulteo is actually four distinct technologies.

but (this is my question) is there a some code or a line or some thing I can put in terminal to check exactly what type of ram it exactly? I want to order from a new egg or tiger dirrect to save money but don't want to get the wrong one.
I know there is only one ram chip on the motherboard (3 slots total so room for 2 more) and the colour is a mix of chrom and blue.
