Need alternative for MS SQL server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 26, 2008
I'm a computer science student and now we're learning SQL in the university and we apply what we learned on Microsoft SQL Server 2005, so please guys give me alternative to this software so I can apply the (STANDARD) SQL we learn on it. Please I want it with Visual interface and with a pre-created database like the Northwind in MS SQL Server 2005.
note: Mysql doesn't work for me cuz it's different a little bit.
Problem accessing Windows SQL server from Red Hat Web Server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 28, 2008
I am working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) virtual server. I installed PHP 5.1.6 and Apache 2.0. I installed the easySoft ODBC driver. I can successfully connect to a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database on a remote server from isql. I can also successfully run PHP command-line. I begin to experience problems, however when I try to connect to the database through PHP. I can successfully query for and produce a list of tables on the database server, so the two are "talking" to one another. However, whenever I try to select rows of a database table, the browser just hangs/spins and does not return results. Again, the same php scripts work fine command line. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Want to start server up in text mode 80x25

I'm trying real hard to get my 10.04 LTS server to boot up so I can see the screen. Text mode is all I need.
I tried a few things in the /etc/default/grup
# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
# The resolution used on graphical terminal
# note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
# you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
# Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux
# Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu
[SOLVED] Unable to select server kernel with preseed
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 6, 2010
I'm currently trying to use preseed to build an ubuntu server box over the network. I'm using the netboot.tar.gz from the karmic main mirror. By default it installs the standard kernel (linux-2.6.31-16-generic), and I want to use the server kernel (the metapackage linux-server which should install linux-image-2.6.31-16-server).
I'm using a minimal build:
tasksel tasksel/first multiselect minimal
As far as I can see all the other preseed settings are close to defaults.
I've tried setting both of the following lines (separately and together) with no effect:
d-i base-installer/kernel/image string linux-server
d-i base-installer/kernel/override-image string linux-server
Once the machine is built, if I run:
# Kernel to install:
# Choices: linux-386,linux-generic,linux-generic-pae,linux-virtual,linux-image-386,linux-image-generic,linux-image-generic-pae,linux-image-virtual,lin
