Run a MS Sql server in Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 5, 2008
Hello, Currently, we run our office in windows only. Windows server, and windows clients. I want to switch that all to Linux.
The main holdup is our cms software which runs in .net and connects to a MS Sql server (the freebie version) on the windows 2k server.
Is there a way to run that same ms sql server software on a linux server so that I don't have to keep the windows server?

Ubuntu Server 15.04 beta using virtmanager over X11
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 4, 2015
I have a (probably) not so smart question. I've just downloaded the Ubuntu Server 15.04 beta and was pleased to find that it includes qemu 2.2.0 since I've been trying to setup a vfio VM (using: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/art...14-04-KVM-585/) and am hitting the driver stop (code 43 issue, for which the kvm=off flag is apparently required--and not supported until qemu 2.1 and newer). What is not so cool however is that on 14.04.2 I was able to use X11 forwarding to forward the virt-manager gui over to my windows machine (but had to build qemu, since 14.04.2 has version 2.0.0). It appears that this no longer works out of the box, or that I'm doing something wrong now. I was hoping someone could help me determine if this a bug (and what information to collect and how to report exactly) or if I just messed up.
I started out by installing Ubuntu Server 15.04 beta in EFI mode with ssh-server and virtual machine host selected. I then ran
sudo apt-get update &
Can SSH into server but have trouble using tunnels as proxy
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 16, 2008
I'm trying to set up my remote ssh server so that I can tunnel web traffic through it while I'm on an unsecured network. I set up the ssh server and can successfully ssh into from a different network. However, when I try to set up a tunnel so that I can use it as a proxy it doesn't work. I was using the command
Unable to find gmp's shared libraries using g++
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 2, 2009
(note beforehand that if you know an easy-to-use bigint type library that you can give me step by step instruction on how to set up, you have done far more for me than solving this problem would. That'd be great. )
Here's what's happening:
I am trying to compile this C++ program:
int Ackermann(int m, int n);
using namespace std;
a = 1;
a = a*a; a = a*a;
int m = 4, n = 4;
cout <<"\n\nAckermann's function for (" << m << "," << n << ") is " << Ackermann(m,n);
int Ackermann(int m, int n)
if (m == 0)
else if (n == 0)
However, when I compile it like this:
g++ ackermann.cpp -o
squid As A Proxy Server (External IP's Using This Server)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 25, 2013
I am curious, I have tried to set this up before: I have a VPS on a server that I rent, I installed squid to use as a proxy server, however my home PC (not on the same subnet as the squid) and I could not get my PC to connect and navigate the internet.
Does anyone know or have a guide on how to setup squid on an external network, that will allow a PC on another network to connect it and use it as a proxy server?
MS Sql Server Management Studio

Has anyone been able to get the 2005 Microsoft Sql Server Management Studio to load in Wine? I'm getting this install error "Failed to load SqlSpars.dll"
Any help would be appreciated. I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 and wine-0.9.59.
I was able to get Office 2007 loaded successfully but can't seem to get this one down.
PostgreSQL 9.3 on Ubuntu Server 12.04 v.s. MS SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows 7 Ultima
location: linuxexchange.com - date: April 22, 2014
I have searched many articles in Google about the performance of PostgreSQL vs MS SQL 2008 R2 and found that many of those articles say the performance of PostgreSQL is better than that of MSSQL 2008 R2. So, I make a real test with my company's real case.
I build two vmware guests in ESXi 5.5, each of the guest has the same virtual hardware specification, which include (I only list the key items):
CPUs: one virtual socket with two cores
Virtual Disk: 50GB for Ubuntu server and 200GB for Windows 7 (well, as you know, Microsoft always consumes more storage space)
VM Host (a single box ):
RAM: 16GB with intel-i5 2 cores with hyper threading
HD: 1TGB 2.5"
Windows 7 Ultima + MS SQL Server 2008 R2, all with default parameters
Ubuntu Linux Server 12.04 + PostgreSQL 9.3, all with default parameters
DB tools: Db Visualizer 9.0.9 (on another laptop)
MSSQL 2008R2: sqljdbc_4.0.2206.100_cht.tar
