Installation help needed Failed to unmount partitions
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 7, 2009
I'm having trouble installing Ubuntu on my laptop..
I'm installing from my hard disk using UNetbootin and keep receiving the following error when the installer is attempting to partition the disk:
Failed to unmount partitions
The installer needs to commit changes to partition tables, but cannot do so becaue partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted:
Please close any applications using these mount points
Would you like the installer to try to unmount these partitions again?
There is an exisiting XP install on the drive, and I have tried various combinations of new partition tables and deleting existing partitions, to be reformated by the installer, to no avail and keep receiving the same error.
Any help welcome!

I am trying to install firefox mobile os b2g on ubuntu . I have downloaded and installed gaia. But when I am trying to run firefoxmobile b2g I am getting errors. Can anyone please help me in finding where I am going wrong. Below are the steps I am following:
1. Downloaded b2g-26.0a1.multi.linux-i686.tar.bz2 from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...zilla-central/
2. Extracted it in Downloads folder only.
3. From terminal I have downloaded and installed gaia using the command
git clone http://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia
then make -C gaia profile
4. When the profile is ready I tried to run firefox mobile b2g
:~/Downloads/b2g$ cd b2g
bash: cd: b2g: Not a directory
I tried this one also
:~/Downloads/b2g$ -profile /home/testlab2/Downloads/b2g/gaia

SATA drive not working correctly after failed Ubuntu Server 12.04 install
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 3, 2013
I'm not entirely sure if LinuxQuestions' hardware section deals in these sorts of problems, but here goes.
I've rebuilt an old scrap computer as a project over the weekend, and as of a few hours ago I've had some problems with the hard drive. I was trying to do a clean encrypted LVM installation of Ubuntu Server 12.04 (no, i do NOT trust my roommates with it) on it when an error message showed telling me there was a problem one of the packages dealing with the actual LVM formatting. Not thinking much of it, I restarted to retry the installation whilst formatting the drive in standard LVM, which worked before... to find that my hard drive (a Western Digital WD5000JJAS SATA drive) was no longer being detected correctly by the BIOS.
On the Award BIOS being run on the system, both the AHCI and IDE modes for the drive hang for about a minute when polling the hardware, and even then they won't correctly display the name of the drive (instead of showing None or WDC WD5000AAJS blahblahetcet
Account lock after failed login attempts
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 25, 2010
I'm new to these forums and this is my first post.
I'm trying to lock an account after a number of failed login attempts in a RHEL5. This is the relevant configuration in /etc/pam.d/system-auth
auth required pam_env.so
auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass
auth requisite pam_succeed_if.so uid >= 500 quiet
auth required pam_deny.so
# added to limit number of unsuccessful login attempts
auth required pam_tally.so onerr=fail deny=3 lock_time=4
account required pam_unix.so
account sufficient pam_succeed_if.so uid < 500 quiet
account required pam_permit.so
account required pam_tally.so
In the logs I can see how the count of failed logins increase and exceeds my deny option but the account isn't locked
pam_tally(sshd:auth): user user (503) tally 4, deny 3
pam_tally(sshd:auth): user user (503) tally 5, deny 3
Do I need any other option in the PAM f
Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server
- date: August 14, 2011
It seems this is a common problem. I used Samba to configure and connect the computer running Ubuntu 11.04 with my Windows Visa workgroup. This is a wired, not wireless, connection.
In Ubuntu, under Network, I can see the name of the other computer (NOVA_MORAI), but when I click, I get the error:
Unable to mount location - Failed to retrieve share list from server
I tried the nmblookup command, here is the output:
:~$ nmblookup NOVA_MORAI
querying NOVA_MORAI on 192.168.1.255
:~$ nmblookup -A 192.168.1.2
Looking up status of 192.168.1.2

NOVA_MORAI <20> - B <ACTIVE>
PLANET OF FATE <1e> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE>
MAC Address = 00-1B-B9-83-AC-67
There it it. But when I try the findsmb command, it does not show up.

[SOLVED] Remote Desktop Error: Failed to Load Session Ubuntu2d
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 13, 2013
Okay so I am a noob to linux but not PCs in general so I'll get to the point here. I'm trying to connect remote desktop from a windows PC to a server (yes I noticed if you mention ms or windows you should post in general, but I'm not allowed since this is my first post). So, first here are the specs:
Dell AMD E-450 APU with Radeon HD Graphics (1.65 GHz)
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 (64-bit)
Internet: Cable modem 15mbps/2.5mbps
OVH Kimsufi Intel Atom D425 1.8 GHz (512k cache)
Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" LTS + x2go (64-bit)
Internet: 100mbps/100mbps dedicated line
So I have been able to set the server up and I have played with it a little bit and gotten more comfortable with the commands, but now I tried to connect remote desktop and I get this:
So I tried to do a little research and my guess was gdm wasn't running. So I installed it and started the service okay, but I keep getting that same mes
