[SOLVED] Local printer not working in Xubuntu 11.04 after upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 10, 2012
My local printer Canon i560 connected by USB worked fine on Ubuntu 10.10.
I upgraded to Xubuntu 11.10 and I can't get the printer to work. I went through the installation and the printer appears in 'Printing - Local Host'.
I tried to print a test page. In 'Printer Properties - Settings' it ends up showing 'Printer State' as 'Idle - Rendering completed'. However nothing happens after this.
Thanks for any help.

How to safely upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 22, 2012
I am presently using Ubuntu 10.10 which I successfully upgraded for 10.04. I have attempted to upgrade to 11.04 but it did not work. I would like to upgrade but do it in a safe way so as not to mess up things as have happened on all my previous attempts/
On my other attempts to upgrade using the Update Manager it would go about its business. Then tells me the update had been successful, however when I tried to use this new update nothing worked. I could not open any of my browsers or access anything which might work or should work. Is there a way to update safely? This 11.04 does one need to have a newer PC for it to work? I am presently using an older PC; a Gateway all in one. I have had no problems going for Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 then 10.04 next 10.10 but when I came to 11.04 disaster struck.
Does 11.04 require some hardware which my Gateway may not have or some software? I do recall something about Unity and Gnome? Although I am not sure if Gnome is the right word or subject matter?
[SOLVED] Problems with wifi after upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 2, 2012
My wifi was working perfectly on Ubuntu 12.04, but after a Web upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 the wifi to my Windows network takes ages to connect and after a while disconnects and requires a reboot to get it going again.
Is there a simple solution to this?
[SOLVED] Upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04 crashed now I cant backup my files
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 6, 2010
I was running Ubuntu 9.10. It was great, I loved it. Update manager said there was an upgrade available to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04. (This is the first time I have ever said Yes, install upgrade. I usually do a backup and install a fresh copy of the newer version.) Anyway the upgrade installed and reported an x-server error but the rest looked OK. After reboot---thats it, nothing after reboot. Just sits at a Ubuntu page like it wants to load but it will not. I could handle this if only I had made a backup first. (I should have known better.)I have another PC running Ubuntu 9.10 so I took the hard drive from the failed upgrade and I have it hooked up to my SATA drive adapter and the USB side into my other Ubuntu PC. So now I can see the folders on the failed upgrade disc. (great.) Thats all I need are the files that are in "Documents" folder. I assume "Documents" is in my "root" folder. The "root" folder has an X symbol on the top right corner and
ssh no longer works after upgrade from ubuntu 10.10 server to 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 16, 2011
I upgraded to ubuntu server 11.04 a while back, and ever since then the ssh does not work. For example, if I try to log in it seems to take my credentials but immediately kicks me off. Further looking in the log shows pam_open_session() module is unknown. I do remember it asking to upgrade some /etc/security/something.conf file, so maybe that has something to do with it. I have no clue how to fix this, and for now I'm stuck using my host's out of band access (and no sftp or scp either). Any help is appreciated.
Upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to Lubuntu 10.04 ?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 14, 2011
I want to upgrade an old machine with 350 MB RAM running Ubuntu 8.04. My first attempt was to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Initially it seemed fine, but then it hang at the splash screen.
Then I reinstalled 8.04, and tried to upgrade using "sudo add-apt-repository" but 8.04 doesn't know that yet.
Next attempt was to boot into the LiveCD of Lubuntu 10.04 and it hangs at a message about unknown UID.
Can somebody please tell me what I may be doing wrong?
“Reboot Failure” after upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 6, 2011
I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS on my 6 year old desktop PC. Following the upgrade the PC would not reboot: it displayed “Starting Up” twice and then the screen went blank. Attempting, via GRUB, to boot the older of the two available versions of Linux (2.6.24-29) resulted in a host of error messages, the foremost being the hard drive could not be found.
After many days experimenting with GRUB parameters (acpi=off, etc) with no success, I changed the monitor configuration from VGA to DVI. Presto, there was the Ubuntu login screen. It was there all along, I just couldn't see it! I'm guessing Ubuntu 8 supports VGA and Ubuntu 10 does not. Nevertheless, I love Ubuntu 10!
I'm posting this in case someone else has the same issue.
