When i try to upgrade from redhat 9 to fedora. The first thing the installation does after the parameters are given in aar copying the core. The installer start with this but then complaints about no place on my harddisk.
I thought this could mean there is not enough place on my /boot, so I did a tar cvf boot.tar /boot on the root. Removed the entry in the /mnt/fstab unmounted the /boot
did a tar xvf boot.tar. So now ther should be enough plac on my /boot
I rebooted the system but the installation gave the same error. Can somebody give me help on this subject.

Hi, I am currently running RH9 on a Dell Inspiron 8600. Is there a way to upgrade to Fedora without losing all my currently installed applications? Is it recommended since my laptop is relatively new and I might have problems with the drivers and stuff.
redhat 9 upgrade on sony vaio laptop
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 20, 2003
I am trying to upgrade my laptop (a sony vaio pcg-z505ls) to redhat 9.0 I am already running rh 8.0 on it. when I boot off the cd (its a pcmcia cdrom) the kernel loads and I get a blank blue screen that says "welcome to redhat" at the top and at the bottom of the screen it says "tab/alt-tab= move between fields; space selects; F12=next screen"
but there is nothing else on the screen. I've tried entering "linux text" and "linux lowres" at the boot prompt but still get the same behavior. RH 8.0 loaded fine, any ideas?
Redhat 7.2 upgrade/security advice
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 20, 2005
I have a dedicated server at a hosting facility. I have no physical access to it.
I'm using it just for apache, php, and mysql for multiple domains.
Should I be worried about upgrading my kernel or any of my software?
Red Hat Linux 7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.2 2.96-112.7.2)
OpenSSH_3.1p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0
Apache/1.3.24 mod_ssl/2.8.8 OpenSSL/0.9.6j AuthMySQL/2.20 mod_perl/1.26
PHP Version 4.2.1
I've heard rumors that my version of gcc is bad for compiling mysql. And then I've heard that upgrading gcc creates all kinds of system wide problems.
What should my course of action be? Leave it as is and not worry about it? Upgrade a few things?
Upgrading from redhat 9 to fedora upgrade or fresh install
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 23, 2003
Hi. Is it advisable to move from redhat 9 to fedora by upgrading, or would people suggest a fresh install?
There is quite a bit of software I would prefer not to have to reinstall from scratch.
Thanks in anticipation,

Running Redhat 9 (2.4 kernel) on X86 box. Using Samba, CVS, MySQL, Apache and Tomcat with very little traffic (development testing).
To upgrade to "modern" distro do I need to start from scratch? Or is there a way to upgrade to Ubuntu or Fedora
