WD Desktop Black 4TB HD not visible.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 17, 2013
I just purchased a WD Desktop Black 4TB hard disc (SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3.0), 64MB Cache, 7200RPM, 3.5", Dual processor). I have installed it in my home built tower computer. I can use the cable for the drive to get other drives to work, but I can't take a cable from another drive and get the new drive to show in Ubuntu 12.04, nor will the drive work when I connect it to the cable that came with the drive. It is my understanding that the SATA 3 controller can figure out for itself which channel each drive should run on without manually switching channels. Does this mean that my new drive is faulty?
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Lucid Black Screen
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 2, 2010
I recently upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and was having trouble getting 3D graphics enabled on my ATI card. I am running on an MacPro3,1.
I read through this guide as I was having errors regarding fglrx so I uninstalled it and as instructed issued the following:
sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh # (if it exists)
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
When I rebooted I got a black screen immediately after grub. I can not get to commend line with ctrl+alt+f1.
Any suggestions at this point to get a boting machine or get to a command line to see if I can fixx the drivers or possible the xorg configuration?

Ubuntu Arm Beaglebone Black Failure Concerns
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 31, 2013
I purchased a beaglebone black and installed ubuntu CLI to sd card leaving the angstrom linux on eMMC.
I pulled Lubuntu-desktop to sd card and all appeared fine until I issued reboot command.
I then found trying to boot angstrom that HDMI no longer operated and ssh password on angstrom was neither default on ubuntu or angestrom.
angstrom web interface was still operational but ssh refused to log on complaining password was wrong
I was advised to reinstall angstrom to eMMC and as it booted off sd card the HDMI worked, it appeared to flash correctly until reboot.
The beaglebone hardware developer has supported me in trying to resurrect the device and we have been unsuccessful.
Now either a remarkable hardware failure or some how the installation of ubuntu and lubuntu desktop corrupts device bootloader in a manner that isn't reversible with eMMC reflash.
I would like to report this as a bug/issue but am not sure how to correctly report it.

Monitor going to "black" when Ubuntu is idle.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 28, 2013
I have Ubuntu/Gnome set to "never" in the "brightness & lock". However, when the computer is idle for a period time (how long I don't know) the monitor is going to "black". Of course, all I have to do is press any key to continue. So, where are all the places to look into to "turn off" this function?

Nothing but a black screen Gnu Grub... (Wubi)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 10, 2009
In an attempt to start learning more about Ubuntu I installed 9.10 using Wubi I'm having a slight problem:
If I select the Ubuntu option in the boot menu I get a black screen (Console-like) with header "Gnu Grub 1.97 beta"
And nothing more than that. I can't seem to get Ubuntu to boot normally. Seeing as I'm a total nobb, what am I doing wrong here?
ps: CPU is AMD phenom 2 x3 720 in case that might matter. (And yes, installing the 64 bit version)
Going from intel to AMD CPU/MB; Will Ubuntu start if I swap the disk the HD?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 21, 2008
So I am upgrading my father in law's machine from an Old P4 to a newer AMD 5000.
If I just pull the disk out of the old box and into the new one, is Ubuntu (Feisty) still going to boot/work, or am I better off reinstalling everything from scratch ?
Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 6, 2012
If you were going to get one which would it be and why? Ubuntu looks cool on the 7 but probably something I wouldn't use. I'm accustomes to regular android on my phone so that's another selling point for the 7. Then again the hdmi out on the fire hd is really appealing as well as the supposedly awesome wifi. My android phone barerly works on wifi where i would primarily use the tablet but my laptop,ps3,and 360 all work in that spot. Also i plan on reupping my prime subscription eventually. How bad is the amazon version of android? Also anyone root a fire hd yet?
