Going from intel to AMD CPU/MB; Will Ubuntu start if I swap the disk the HD?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 21, 2008
So I am upgrading my father in law's machine from an Old P4 to a newer AMD 5000.
If I just pull the disk out of the old box and into the new one, is Ubuntu (Feisty) still going to boot/work, or am I better off reinstalling everything from scratch ?
Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 6, 2012
If you were going to get one which would it be and why? Ubuntu looks cool on the 7 but probably something I wouldn't use. I'm accustomes to regular android on my phone so that's another selling point for the 7. Then again the hdmi out on the fire hd is really appealing as well as the supposedly awesome wifi. My android phone barerly works on wifi where i would primarily use the tablet but my laptop,ps3,and 360 all work in that spot. Also i plan on reupping my prime subscription eventually. How bad is the amazon version of android? Also anyone root a fire hd yet?
AMD Radeon HD 5xxx / 6xxx unsupported after 13.04 update
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 26, 2013
Hello. After updating to version 13.04, I started to get an annoying AMD unsupported hardware watermark on the corner of my screen (right, bottom). So I started to investigate what could have gone wrong...I have a AMD A4 CPU and a AMD Radeon HD 6480G. When I go to "Programs and updates" --> "Additional drivers", it says it's running a proprietary driver (fglrx-updates). If I check the fglrx box or the xorg box, the watermark does not go away.
I ran the Catalyst GUI and it says that version 12.9 is currently installed. According to the AMD website, the newest version of Catalyst for my CPU is 13.4. Ubuntu repositories only offer fglrx and fglrx-updates on the 12.9 version (BTW, what is the difference between those two drivers?!)
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this issue? Should I be concerned at all with this watermark warning? I'm not experiencing video problems that I am aware of. Can I at least make this watermark go away?

Video Issus Using XBMCbuntu and an Old HD CRT television
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 16, 2012
I will give you some background because that is much more fun than my problem. So I am moving into the apartment that I will shortly share with my wife after we get married in October. I have been trying to build a media serving system for this small apartment that is basically A 50 inch Panasonic plasma in the living room hooked up to an xbox 360 and a htpc with wmc and xbmc and tuning off an antenna. That tv source is being shared to the master bedroom which (hopefully) will be a small form factor pc running xbmcbuntu on an older 30 inch crt television and also and xbox 360 for television and other media (of course). I have about 3 tb of storage running all over the place since I don't have money for a network storage drive.
So my issue is that the crt does not transmit edid. It actually doesn't seem to transmit much of anything from the television. To any computer it does not appear to be connected. I had it attached to my windows machine with an amd card whose software al
AMD HD Series Graphics Guide: Optimizing Video Playback for MythTV, Mplayer, & Others
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 1, 2010
I originally created this guide on Ubuntu Forums' website under sports.car.guy. I am contemplating removing it from there thanks to an Op on a power trip and his treatment towards me. I tried to help someone, answered their question, and in the process stated how not searching could be why he received no reply and also how google is a great resource. I got written up for suggesting good habits when trying to solve a Linux problem, besides giving them the answer.
This noob did not like the response I gave or the one from another poster because we were the only two to reply and explained how it only really matters on the GPU itself not the card maker and the nVidia 8800 was well supported. So the noob blatently violated their COC went off about how we were jerks, etc. I replied that I gave him what he was looking for. I also stated because he brought up how he did search and found nothing that if he put in the GPU model and linux into a search engine it would come up, bu
Enable addl. HD in server 10.04/Zentyal?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 1, 2011
I am pretty new to Ubuntu server- I have searched the documentation but I did not find (I think) the answer I was looking for, so hoping I can find some guidance here...
I was looking for a Linux-based server that would be somewhat eaisier to setup than using straight Ubuntu server, as I am still new to the command line (but I am learning!). I ran across Zentyal (www.zentyal.org) and decided to try it...I installed Server 10.04 on my box, then added the Zentyal packages and installed. So far so good. Here is the issue...I do not seem to be seeing/have access to all of the Hd space...
Box is a Generic P4/2.4Ghz with 768mb RAM, and 2 HD's, 1-10Gb/1-80Gb. My intention was to have the 10Gb have the system on it, and the 80Gb be for data. When I installed server 10.04, I *thought* both drives were setup in LVM, but apparently not, as when I go into the Zentyal control panel, I am NOT seeing 90Gb of HD space!
As I said, I installed server 10.04 first before I installed Zen

Do any game developers target intel HD graphics?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 5, 2012
Do any game developers target Intel HD4000 graphics processors? Like, optimize their games specifically for that unit?
I would like to develop an open source game that is aimed specifically at Intel HD4000 graphics processors.
Does anyone have recommendations for where to start? Lol... I have no experience in game design.
