Moving files Ubuntu / Fedora Server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 31, 2010
I use Ubuntu Lucid and use the terminal to access my virtual server (GoDaddy - Red Hat Fedora Core 6). Using the terminal and entering SSH [account name]@IP gets me there. I can manipulate the server then.
But how do I transfer files to/from the Ubuntu terminal to the Fedora server? I want to (using Evolution) email a file on the server to someone. Stumped.
Bash: how to open jpeg files with gimp after the former has been closed
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 26, 2011
Hi everybody. I have to edit several video frames as jpg images. I can't do it through batch processes, because every frame must be edited individually. So, I've tried a bash file like this:
But this opens the three files at once. What I need is that when I'm finished with video0000.jpeg, gimp would open video0001.jpg and so on... is there a way to do this with a bash script? I've tried to add a "read" instruction between the lines, but I have to push a key, and to go to the next line gimp must be closed. Please, can you help me? Thank you in advance!
Anyone know of linux program to recover corrupted jpeg files
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 24, 2015
I recently came back from a trip and found that about 100 photos that I took with a Canon sx280hs camera were unreadable off the micro sd card. They are all in a sequence at the end of the card (the earlier photos are fine) and all give the same error
Error interpreting JPEG image file (Not a JPEG file: starts with 0xff 0xff)
. Somehow the camera screwed up recording jpeg images (the videos that were intermixed were fine). I am looking for a program that could repair the jpeg files and run under linux. I found some that run under windows, but my windows capability is limited.
Any help is appreciated...
recovering corrupt JPEG files from CD
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 16, 2010
During a trip to Hawaii in July of 2006 I had my first digital camera. Once the storage
cards were full I went to an Internet Cafe in Hilo to copy the images to CD so that I
could take more photos. I was careful about matching the files and byte counts on the
CD and the original hard drive folder containing the camera data before erasing the
source files. I was able to view the copied images on the CD without any problem on
the computer that I used to create the CD. However, upon my return home I found
that many of the copied images could not be viewed or accessed. Tried to use a
program called ISOBUSTER to get at the files, but no joy. Also attempted to get the
photos using some other software (don't recall which at this point; it's been a while),
but still no luck. Did get some images, but they looked scrambled, like a jigsaw puzzle
put together wrong: rectangular strips transposed into wrong places in the frame.
Tried using the right-click Check Disc function that came with
Creating .htaccess files (Ubuntu Server 12.04 w/ Apache2)
location: linuxexchange.com - date: October 19, 2013
Whenever I create an .htaccess file in a directory it disappears. I am running a VPS at Digital Ocean (I have full control over the server). So I can't see why my .htaccess files are automatically deleted upon creation. I even tried to make the file on my computer and just transfer it to the directory via FTP but as soon as it transfers, it disappears. I checked the log of the FTP transfer and the file transferred successfully. I can't figure this out.

Configuration file for a shell script to do dynamic addition of files ubuntu
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I have this shell script myScript.sh
I am trying to write a configuration file which sets the environment variables. But since I am a linux novice, I am getting confused as to how to do it.
So this is how myScript.sh looks.
. . .
python pythonScript.py --arguments
Now, I have to put all the hard coding into the config files. As in multiple users may want to make changes. So I am writing a config.sh which looks like this.
Within the new myscript.sh I call

Is there a way to consolidate multiple jpeg files into one file? Maybe a pdf file or something similar? CLI and GUI options would be appreciated.
