[SOLVED] ubuntu 10.10 64 bit wired connection ok in live CD, not after full install
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 24, 2011
Thanks to anyone willing to help me. Did search, tried installing drivers, no luck.
I'm a Linux newb, but have successfully installed and run (all 32 bit) Mandrake, Ubuntu, Fedora and Puppy Linux on other machines. I know just enough to be dangerous but I found I like Ubuntu the most so...
I just built up a computer and want to run Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. I partitioned the drive in 2 equal sections, installed Windows 7. When I boot in the Ubuntu CD following POST, I originally had some very weird issues with the mouse acting erratic - jumping around and creating windows at random - almost like the scrolling action was a command to open a window.
Frustrated, I decided to try Fedora 14, 64 bit. I did not have the mouse issues, so I installed it to the HD (including swap partition). However, I could never figure out how to get the network adapter to work following full install.
Yesterday, I decided to give Ubuntu 10.10 64bit another try. I booted,
ssh connection timing out Ubuntu 10.04
- date: May 14, 2010
I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04, and having upgraded I can no longer ssh (or sftp or scp) to my university network.
Before upgrading I could ssh without any problems. On ssh-ing now I get the following message:
ssh: connect to host stargate.uclan.ac.uk port 22: Connection timed out
where sshuni is an alias for the following: ssh -Y -C [email protected]
I also had problems getting firefox working when I initially upgraded, however these were resolved by disabling IPv6. I suspect this is somehow related to my current problem but I don't know where to start trying to fix this.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Stop and restart Ethernet connection Ubuntu 9.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 8, 2010
If I uncheck and recheck "Enable Networking" in the Network Manager Applet 0.7.996 I would expect the wired network to disconnect (which it does) and reconnect (which it does NOT). So I tried
sudo ifdown eth0 and got
Ubuntu kills internet connection
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 10, 2005
Whenever I boot up ubuntu 5.04, it kills my internet connection. I have a Netgear 8 port hub, which is connected to my SMC 7004ABR router, which is plugged into my Zoom ADSL modem. One box is Ubuntu 5.04 and the other is XP. Once the Ubuntu box boots up, neither box can access the internet. The only way to get back on is shut all hardware down and restart. Also, my internet connection has slowed from about 1200 kbps to less than 400 kbps. Here is my /var/log/syslog file (followed by output from "ifconfig -a" and "route -n":

I tried using baobab (disk analyzer) and i unchecked all of disk, media, even / but it still keeps me warning.
I found on www that we can do it from configurator-editor in

No network connection information
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 30, 2012
Now using Ubuntu 12.04LTS with Unity desktop on my Dimension 8400. My question: although I have a network connection (wired), the Connection Information in the Network applet menu reveals no info other than "Error displaying connection information: No valid active connections found!". I am not overly concerned about this but I am curious as to why. Have already done the basic
T/S. If anyone has had a similar problem & solved it, I would appreciate the I/P. Thanks in advance....

Ethernet Connection Speed Not Configuring Properly on Dell Optiplex 740 with Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 20, 2013
Hey guys, I'm having a bit of an issue with my computer. I just recently installed Ubuntu on one of my household computers, and I'm having an issue with my Ethernet Connection. I have broadband internet which is run directly to a 24 Port Ethernet Key, which is in turn connected directly to my Modem. My internet connection is rated at 100 Mbps. When I plug my Ethernet cable into the computer, the connection status says it's connected, but at 1000 Mbps, and the connection does not actually work. I have another computer, a Dell Dimension 8300, which had used that same cable before with no issues.
Any Ideas on how to fix this?
Error establishing a database connection
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 20, 2008
So my hard drive died and i lost everything. I got my server back up and running in about an hour. All works perfect except i can not seem to install wordpress again. I get this
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
now i has double checked everything and all the information in the wp-config.php is correct. I have no idea what could be wrong. I use webmin to control my mysql database. Any help would be great.
