VNC over Putty "Network Error: Software Caused Connection abort"
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 24, 2009
I have VISTA OS on my friend's Laptop which I don't use for any thing, except have putty on it to connect remotely over Internet to my Fedora6 machine which is at my house, It worked very well and suddenly it started throwing this error of "Network Error: SOftware Caused Connection abort"
This seems to be prominant as soon as I open up the VNC client to tunnel in via the SSH connection, it asks me for the VNC password and after that it just get disconnected along with the Putty session, When I try to reconnect I am able to reconnect.
I don't think that this has got something to do with the ISP, as my VNC is getting tunneled through the Encrypted SSH session. I am scratching my head trying to figure out what has gone wrong with my box suddenly :-(
I was searching through the forum and found that this one closly matched, however it did not solve my problem

VNC Server on CentOS Viewer on XP

I have the task of putting VNC server on a CentOS server and putting VNC viewer on my XP machine. I have zero experience on Linux, so I need step by step from downloading to the end. If you have a place to steer me in the right direction, that will work too. Thank you so much.
SSH Tunnel For VNC Connection
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 12, 2011
I am pretty new to Ubuntu and Linux in general but am making headway figuring things out. I want to make sure I am doing things right to connect a VNC over a secure SSH Tunnel. First I am creating the SSH connection by opening a Terminal and entering ssh -L 5900:localhost:5900 host ip. Of course I then enter the required password and the SSH connection is established. Next I start x11vnc server using the SSH connection by entering x11vnc -connect "ip of machine performing the help", this then sets up the required vnc-server which is now waiting for a connection. Last I open Remmina on the machine I have used to establish the SSH connection and enter localhost:5900 in the server box, username, and password, then hit connect and the remote desktop is then displayed. Is this all correct and do I now have a secure VNC connection? This is obviously for my local network. If I wanted to perform these same procedures to help a friend on a different network would the SSH Tunne
Juniper VNC connection issue on Lubuntu 13.04 64 bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 13, 2013
I've been trying to get this to work for days now, askubuntu.com and ubuntuforums are all out of ideas.
According to Junipers website a 64 bit client is not available, they've modified the existing 32-bit client so that it can be run on 64-bit platforms. I have been following the steps on the below two links:
I did the following:
1. Fresh Install of Lubuntu 13.04 64 bit
2. Install 64 bit firefox
3. sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre icedtea-7-plugin
4. sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre:i386
5. sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
6. Log into my employers VPN webpage
7. Click on relevent connection -> Progress bar displayed
8. Window pops up asking me if I want to install the jar file -> I click yes
9. Terminal pops up asking me for root password which I enter
At this point I would expect the network connect icon to be displayed confirming I am co
VNC client connection to vncserver on Centos

Iḿ trying to connect to a sever running Centos 5, using VNC but I keep getting the same error:
VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 for X - built Mar 24 2009 19:52:30

vncviewer: unable to open display ""
I configuered the server and everything looks okay, a friend of mine is using OpenSuse and he was able to connect to the server, and I used his machine to test my user account and configuration, and it worked, so I think the problem is on my client in ubuntu.
I tried using Vinagre but as soon as I click "connect" a dialog comes out saying "connection closed".
I am running Ubuntu 9.04, it would be great if someone could help me with this.

software center won't run from VNC connection
- date: June 30, 2012
I posted about this once before but got no replies.
When I try to open the software center gui the window opens but it's blank. At first there is a "working" indicator (a circle made up of lines) but that goes away and then nothing.
When started from a terminal with software-center I get a lot of messages.
They make no sense to me but maybe someone else will recognize the problem.
Here's the output from software-center:

Keyring preventing VNC connection after reboot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 14, 2010
I have a headless Jaunty server that I need to access from both mac and PC clients. If the server has been rebooted, I can SSH into it, but I can not VNC into it unless I unlock the keychain. The problem is that I can't figure out how to unlock the keychain from SSH connections, so the only available method is to attach a keyboard to the physical box and enter the keychain password at the server itself.
Is there a Terminal command that I can use to unlock the keychain? I have seen references to the 'security' command but that appears to be unavailable to Jaunty?
Is there an even better method than a Terminal command? I don't want to be putting passwords into the Terminal log if I can help it. Ideally, I would connect via SSH, confirm the keychain somehow, and tunnel in through VNC.
I've seen posts about this elsewhere, but none of them contain solutions.
