GUI VNC on Centos 5.5 vps?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 2, 2013
I have a VPS running CentOS 5.5 with 128 MB RAM and 256 MB burst.
Now I want to run an app on this VPS which is only processor intensive, hardly uses any RAM.
The application is BOINC, and my VPS provider has approved me of running it, regarded I change a few settings.
I know that it is possible to run it using cli, but I dont wanna do that.
So I want to connect to the VPS using VNC and set up BOINC and control it using a GUI.
I do not know what I should install, which VNC server, which GUI(window manager, desktop environment, I dont know what to do here).
I should just be able to use boinc-manager while using the least possible amount of RAM.
What do I install? And how? Someone please helP!
SSH: Connection Refused Ubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 28, 2012
I'm setting up an SSH server on my home computer. I'm kind of a Linux noob (I've been using Ubuntu since Febuary or so, meaning I'm not terribly good at everything, but I know some basic stuff to try.
So, if I try to connect to the server through my laptop (also running Ubuntu 12.04), I get this error:
Warning to all ATI Radeon Graphics Card Owners! New Ubuntu Installs.
location: linux.com - date: October 15, 2011
Well, there is this issue that I had with 11.04 when it was new, where I install it all excited on my desktop system with a ATI Radeon HD 4850 Graphics card and then reboot the computer. From there, it boots up and I get "Input not supported" the default monitor resolution is messed up immediately and out of range for my card. I fixed this issue by plugged in my projector which is able to display the resolution for some reason, changing the resolution in Ubuntu by going to the "Monitors" application and then putting it to a normal size and hertz.
So but they did fix this issue I believe in a later patch for 11.04 which I was thankful for because its a pain to have such a process added to my routine of doing a fresh install and configuring it correctly with the correct applications. However, the newest version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu 11.10 has the same exact problem. Either you can fix it in a similar way that I did by finding something by sheer luck that CAN display it
[SOLVED]How to configure Wifi in KDE distro without Internet connection?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 1, 2013
I've just installed Mageia 2 on my hp dv6000 series laptop in a dual booting system with Windows 7. This is my first experience with a KDE distro, so far I've used Ubuntu ( & Windows, of course).
Mageia though beautiful to look at, can't connect to my home wifi so I cannot update softwares or install the missing packages it needs to connect to the wifi!
I'm in the uneasy situation of experimenting with possible solutions in Mageia, then restart the pc, this time boot into Windows7, post updates on help forums, find out new tips & tricks to solve the wifi connection problem, then again switch back to Mageia in a totally time-consuming, never-ending cycle of actions!
So far, I've tried giving this command from Konsole:

[SOLVED] Mint / Ubuntu mobile broadband connection problems
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 31, 2010
This subject has been addressed before, But I didn't find one regarding Australian Providers. The particular one I had trouble with was DODO - which actually uses the Optus newtwork. I am still gathering information as to how it was achieved on my laptop, as it was done for me by somebody else. But I will post the answers as soon as I get the information
Any comments or findings or questions in the meantime would be moat appreciated for they will help with the goal to collect all the different angles, so that Newbie members like myself will be able to sift through and find the solutions which work for them.

Hi I'm trying to install DirectFB onto a Davinci Board from TI. When I run 'make' I get a load of warnings that certain files have a modification time in the future. Is this something to worry about?

[SOLVED] control my ubuntu pc from my ubuntu netbook using only terminal instead of vnc
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 25, 2010
ok my ubuntu server sits in my kitchen and is a headless box, though it uses ubuntu desktop not server
my netbook is a samsung n110 running ubuntu remix (love that os)
now vnc can be slow and awkward (specialy when using a internet dongle) and 90% of what i do is done in terminal so i wondered is it possible to somehow log a terminal season on my netbook into my server pc and use it as though i was using the terminal on my server pc
the things i vnc into it for
burning discs (i use grow something... forget the name but its all terminal based)
editing config files (normaly sudo gedit /home/me/.aplication name/config.cfg ) this triggers gedit so not sure if that would work as the cfg would have to be sent to my netbook to be opened in gedit of my netbook then sent across to my server pc
installing stuff to mess about with (normaly sudo apt-get install app name
so is it doable?...by a ubuntu newb?
Remote Desktop Connection to Ubuntu from Windows 7
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 14, 2012
I am an escapee from Mandrake/Mandriva after eight years or more, sadly they just seemed to losing their way.
After settling for Ubuntu and solving a networking problem which was largely my fault I like Ubuntu very much.
So to the problem.... My eyesight is pretty poor so I have a large high definition monitor on my Windows 7 Ultimate machine and if I need to do any administration on any other machine I use RDC from that machine. Now I can connect easily from the Ubuntu using RDC to any Windows machine, but not the other way around, which is the way I need it. On 'Desktop Sharing Preferences I have ticked allow other users to view and control your desktop. I was not sure what to do about the Security choices so I have tried various combinations without success.
The Windows Explorer connects fine to the Ubuntu and I can ping by IP address and computer name, so it would seem that it is something to do with security on the Ubuntu. No Firewall is installed which is the default.
Guidance on how to set up openssh and vnc between ubuntu 12.04 and windows 7
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 16, 2012
I have a workstation with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit and a laptop with windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I would like to connect from my windows laptop to my ubuntu workstation remotely. I hear VNC with OpenSSH is my best bet. Port forwarding I can set up, I need help with configuring openshh on both ubuntu and windows so i can then connect with vnc securely.
I do not ask for a complete guide here, I know that is a lot of typing, but at least guide me to the correct path that will help me accomplish this. Also, If you have a better way of connecting remotely other than VNC please feel free to post it.
Very slow wireless internet connection using ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 19, 2009
I've been running ubuntu 7.10 since it came out and wireless internet has been a solid 800k/s. I've tried the three new versions of ubuntu on another partition on the same computer and each time, the download speed is only 25k/s.
The card is a rt2500.
Can anyone point me how to resolve this issue?
