11.10 lets user uninstall "Mail Reader/Web Browser", resulting in unusable desktop
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 23, 2011
The issue as I've diagnosed it is a xubuntu one, but I suspect the fix will relate to some more general knowledge.
It seems that a change from 11.04 to 11.10 is that the Software Center now lets users uninstall what shows up as "Mail Reader" and "Web Browser". I, a clueless user, decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and do that for "Mail Reader", but I realized soon enough that I had probably uninstalled something related to exo, or exo as a whole. (As a matter of fact, Web Browser too disapeared when I did that.)
Now, I imagine as a result of that uninstallation, and of exo's close ties with xfce, I am able to see the login screen but not anything beyond that. When I log in, xfce doesn't fully load and gets stuck at displaying the wallpaper and a tiny gray box in the top left corner of the screen.
1) Is what I described a plausible cause of the problem?
2) What would be the best way to reinstall the missing packages, provided I
Claws Mail "SSL Handshake Failed"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 22, 2009
I'm currently using Claws 3.7.2 from the ppa for Hardy. (I'm using Hardy atm). Whenever I try to send mail via smtp, i will always get the "SSL handshake failed" error. However, this problem only comes along when i try to SEND mail. Receiving via imap/pop works perfectly fine.
Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.

[SOLVED] First Serious Attempt at Server Ubuntu 14.04 Storage, Then Mail, Then Web
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 27, 2015
I am moving forward with a long delayed plan. A few years ago, I got my hands on a Sun System 40 Workstation. I have used it with Windows and Ubuntu at different times. Last year I changed the system board. Since Windows 8.1 is not compatible, I have decided to proceed with making it a Linux server.
My plan is to first use it as an internal server for backup and media. My next goal will be to use it as a mailserver, and finally an all out webserver for at least one of my business domains.
I have downloaded 14.04 LTS. I am looking at a lovely black screen. I tried to install ownCloud, but gave up on that until I got expert guidance.
So here I am, experts. Guide me - please?
SSL error when sending PostMark mail with Devise
- date: February 20, 2015
I have an app running Rails 4.2.0, Devise 3.4.1 and the latest version of the postmark-rails gem. At first sending a reset password mail seemed to work fine, but I never received the mails.
Then I changed config.action_mailer.raise_delivery_errors = true (it was false), which revealed the following error:
SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed
Note that this is on my development machine.
I have implemented my mailer as described here, but here are the relevant bits:
class UserMailer < ActionMailer::Base

Web Mail For Mobile Devices
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 6, 2009
Can you please recommend a web-mail server for use with mobile devices?
We currently use Debian lenny and imp/horde as web-mail. But it doesn't work well on mobile phones. For example, on my Sony Ericsson I can't even get past the login page (I suspect some java-script issues).
I know of MIMP project on horde framework but it is not in lenny repositories (anyone happens to know why?) Is it feasible to try installing it anyway (from upstream)? Will it work with lenny version of horde? I don't want to have 2 separate horde stacks.
What web-mail do you use and how does it run on mobile phones?
Thank you for your suggestions.

Ok I know this type of question has been asked numerous times, and I promise i will search however while Ive got all this on my brain I wanted to post.
And this is for my house mind you so enterprise it is not ;p
Ive been an Untangle user now for almost 2 years. Easy to setup, easy to administer, however lately either their updates have been sucking or something. Anyway I decided that I never really liked the interface and I have a second, more powerful box not doing anyhitng so why not replace it.
Anyway the feature I'm looking for would be Firewall, DNS caching, DHCP, Web filtering/proxy, Spam filtering. A web server i think could be neat as I've wanted to stream mp3's from work but thats a tertiary concern.
So I looked at SME server, and IDK what it is but I just dont like it. I def did not like the interface or that fact that there's no easy way to set FW rules, open ports, etc thru its web admin tool. So I found a tutorial on building what Im wanting for Ubuntu Serv
How do I setup a SSL mail server?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: July 14, 2009
For a beginner, can anyone recommend a good method of setting up a encrypted IMAP server (on port 993) or at least TLS POP3 email ? There are plenty of examples of opportunistic client side email encryption with PGP or FireGPG or Enigmail, but that is not the answer I am looking for because swapping keys is complicated for some users (and it needs to be useable by everyone, not just some)
I would basically like to know how to setup a company of 50 people with encrypted email , using a self-signed company cert, so that they can connect with Thunderbird without any additional configuration necessary.
Or, something a little like the experience you get when connecting to Gmail TLS email using Thunderbird.
A simple pointing in the right direction may get rewarded as an answer.
Debian separate mail and web servers help
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 21, 2007
I have a network of 10 windows machines which are connecting to the Internet through a gateway which is also the web and mail server. We have also our own domain name which is kept on the same machine.
I would like to separate these two servers.
I requested from our provider a new static IP so now I have two IPs. One of them I intend to use on the web server and another one on the mail server.
At this time, the web server is a Slackware 10 machine but I intend to replace it with Debian.
What I did until now: I've been set up the mail server, configured it and everything looks fine but I don't know what to do next.
So suppose that I'm done with the web server also, what should I do to emails sent to mydomain.com to arrive, instead on the web server, to the other machine?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
how to send email from web app with mail() in php on CentOS (sendmail, postfix, …?) [closed]
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 25, 2010
We are building a web app and will need to send emails on a frequent basis using php's mail() function. We are using it to send mails when e.g. a user signs up for the app, when a client has a new product order, and so on.
What do we install best on our CentOS server to make this happen? I've read a lot about sendmail vs. postfix vs. other packages to use as an MTA but couldn't figure out what I need.
We will not run mail boxes for our users, we only want to send out email from our web app, not receive any emails (we are using google apps for that)
We are looking for a solutions that is easy to setup and maintain
